The hugely popular KISS treasure video series “KISSTORY” will have two sequels to the “UNMASKED” era simultaneously released!
This series is what you might call the hidden history of KISS. It’s a compilation of rare footage, including unknown TV appearances, forgotten commercials, rare interviews, and film footage, all compiled by the best masters. The first release from the “UNMASKED” era, “VOLUME SIX 1980 PART 1 (Shades 2558),” was recently released to great acclaim, and this week’s two-part series covers parts 2 and 3. Let’s start with a look at the collection so far.
・VOLUME 1: 1974-1976 (until the Destroyer era)
・VOLUME 2: 1976 (until the Rock and Roll Over era)
・VOLUME 3: 1977/1978 (until the solo era)
・VOLUME 4: 1979 (Dynasty era part 1)
・VOLUME 5: 1979 (Dynasty era part 2)
・VOLUME 6: 1980 (Unmasked era part 1)
*VOLUME 7: 1980 (Unmasked era part 2) ←★This album★
・VOLUME 8: 1980 (Unmasked era part 3)
…And that’s how it goes. KISS’s career has been heavily weighted towards North America, but the “UNMASKED Tour” is a unique event that sets them apart from all other eras. The tour was also limited to Europe/Oceania, completely ignoring North America. While the recent “VOLUME SIX 1980 PART 1” was themed around “album release/European tour,” this week’s two-part series is structured as “Part 2: Just before leaving for Australia (this work)” and “Part 3: The main part of the Oceania tour.” Let’s take a look at the contents right away.
●Chapter 1-3 “First TV Footage for Oceania (3 Types)”
After completing their first European tour in four years, KISS planned their first Oceania tour. At the time, KISS’s popularity was waning in the US, but in Oceania, their popularity exploded. This set created an incredible KISS whirlwind. This film features footage from just before their first trip to Oceania.
The DVD features three TV clips, including an Australian version of a KISS makeup kit commercial and two specials for the Oceania tour. The DVD also features a variety of merchandise, including Gene playing with a KISS pinball machine, showcasing KISS as a “phenomenon” and creating a sense of the band’s debut.
●Chapter 4-5 “Extremely Rare Performance Pro Shots (2 Types)”
Next up is the highlight of the first half of this work. Two performance pro shots. One is the TV show “Countdown” broadcast on “September 9th” during the UK tour. Although it is a famous program, this work is recorded in the highest peak version recently uploaded. You can also watch the Australian-only videos “Is That You?” and “Talk To Me.”
The second is the only footage from the main Oceania tour in this film. It’s the complete, unused reel from the “November 21st Sydney performance (first day)” filmed for news purposes. The next film, “KISSTORY 8 1980 PART 3 (Shades 2565),” also includes footage from the following day, “November 22nd,” but this is something completely different. It not only shows live scenes, but also shows venues with families hanging out like at a summer festival, giving you a real sense of just how much of a “phenomenon” KISS’s visit was.
Chapter 6-12 “More TV footage from just before they left for Australia (7 types)”
is another TV broadcast. Enjoy a variety of professional shots, including a different version of the KISS makeup kit commercial, a KISS corner on “Humdrum” announcing the tour, and the TV commercial for “UNMASKED.”
Chapters 11-13 in particular provide a TV report of the excitement surrounding KISS’ historic visit. The opening of tickets alone made headlines, and the full news reel of the infamous KISS march, seen by thousands of children, is also included.
●Chapter 13-14 “Extremely Rare TV Commercials (2 Types)”
KISS sells Australia-exclusive concert bags (assorted goods) and disco wigs. This is said to be the rarest KISS merchandise commercial.
It also includes an extremely rare sticker from the Australian-only commercial for “Kiss Put Ons,” a legendary item that came with breakfast cereal.
Chapter 15-16 “Countdown-esque TV footage (4 types)”
concludes with alternate broadcast versions of the TV show “Countdown.” The video includes the Australian-exclusive “Talk To Me” video and Norman Gunston’s Australian hit single “Marching In The KISS Army.” The latter is a parody performance of “I Was Made For Loving You,” recorded live on Off Masters. Peter Criss, who has since left the band, also appears in a phone interview.
This collection of 16 treasured videos spans 1 hour and 20 minutes. This is the middle part of a trilogy that brings together extremely rare footage from the “UNMASKED” era, a unique moment in KISS history. Featuring the most up-to-date masters provided by researchers, this is the ultimate collection possible in 2026. Not only is this work itself a treasure trove of rare footage, but combining parts 1, 2, and 3 offers a truly epic series that offers a rare 7 hours and 13 minutes of UNMASKED immersion. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The seventh installment in the treasured video collection series “KISSTORY.” This two-disc set compiles approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes of rare footage from the “UNMASKED” era, a hidden gem in KISS history. All of the footage is provided by top-notch, updated masters from researchers, showcasing the band’s first Oceania tour. This is the definitive edition that will transform your collection shelf into a repository of the “golden age of KISS.”
