Description

Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 2nd April 1977 PRO-SHOT(3 SOURCE)

KISS’s first visit to Japan was the biggest event in the history of Western music in Japan. This is the best master set of the TV broadcast pro shots that were a symbol of that. This work includes a multi-camera pro shot of the “April 2, 1977: Nippon Budokan” performance. This is a historically classic video familiar from the legendary “Young Music Show,” but this work is a set of three masters with different sources.

In our shop, the complete version of the outflow master “COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1977 EVENING SHOW / AFTERNOON SHOW” has become a record-breaking hit, but this work is different from that. In order to explain the circumstances around that, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the overall picture of their first visit to Japan.

・March 24th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall
・March 25th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall
・March 26th: Kyoto Hall
・March 28th: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium
・March 30th: Fukuoka City Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium
・April 1st: Nippon Budokan
*April 2nd: Nippon Budokan (afternoon session) ←★6 songs will be broadcast★
*April 2nd: Nippon Budokan (evening session) ←★3 songs will be broadcast★
・April 4th: Nippon Budokan

A total of nine performances. This was their first visit to Japan, and they performed four shows at the Nippon Budokan, which was an incredible scale. Of these, only the April 2nd performance was broadcast on TV. However, it was an excerpted broadcast, with a few songs selected from each of the two performances on the first day. It’s a good opportunity to check out the song distribution.

●Afternoon session (6 songs)
・KISS: Firehouse / Nothin’ To Lose / Black Diamond
・Others: Detroit Rock City / Makin’ Love / God Of Thunder
●Night session (3 songs)
・Cold Gin / Let Me Go, Rock And Roll / Rock And Roll All Nite

…And that’s how it is. All of the songs included in this work are TV broadcast versions with nine songs. Although the content is the same, it is a set of three masters with different origins. Now, let’s introduce each one individually.

[DISC 1: Original Broadcast Version of “Young Music Show”]
The first to appear is the familiar “Young Music Show.” This is the original broadcast version that aired on the afternoon of May 7, 1977. It’s a classic among classics that has been distributed in various forms until now, but this is the highest peak master. It was digitized directly from a video copy recorded in Japan at the time.

The visual beauty is truly historic. No digital correction has been done, so it has the texture unique to 1970s TV. And yet, thanks to the immense freshness of the master, it is extremely natural. It is so beautiful that it feels as if you are receiving the broadcast waves directly from that time.

[DISC 2: 16mm Theatrical Film Version]
The second master is commonly known as “KISS LIVE IN JAPAN.” This is the version that the record company distributed to Japanese cinemas at the time and also distributed to other countries for promotional purposes. This work was created from two existing 16mm reels.

In fact, the content is different. The purpose of the songs is the same as the TV broadcast version, but there are no subtitles for the songs or MCs, and (naturally) there is no title screen for “YOUNG MUSIC SHOW.” Not only that, but there are also some gaps between songs, and the total length is about two minutes shorter than the TV broadcast version.

Of course, the visual beauty is also different. Although the slightly darker screen is not as good as the TV broadcast version (DISC 1), the texture of the film itself exudes a strong sense of the era. If you’re reading this article, you may have seen a documentary at a local community center, and this is an extremely rare version that exudes that same sense of history.

[DISC 3: The ultimate visually stunning HBO broadcast version]
The third master, which appears at the end, is the highlight of this work! It is the 1979 domestic broadcast version by the local New York cable television station “HBO.”

This is also a classic, but this work is a new master that has (significantly) updated its highest quality. The visual beauty is the best of all the first visits to Japan so far. It is more detailed than DISC 1, the best of the Japanese broadcast version, and even more natural, and even more beautiful than the “COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1977 EVENING SHOW / AFTERNOON SHOW”! I can’t believe such a master was left on Earth… That fact alone is enough to make me shiver.

This is a top-notch master set born from three different sources: the original Japanese broadcast version, theatrical 16mm film version, and the HBO broadcast version. The quality of the HBO broadcast version (DISC 3) in particular is an absolute beauty that is unavoidable even for those who already own the “COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1977 EVENING SHOW/AFTERNOON SHOW.” This is your chance to collect the best quality professional shots of KISS’s first visit to Japan, the greatest cultural heritage in rock history. Don’t miss this opportunity!

★Multi-camera pro shots of the “April 2, 1977: Nippon Budokan” performance. The classic TV broadcast version is set with three different best masters from different sources. Disc 1: The original Young Music Show broadcast version, Disc 2: Theatrical 16mm film version, and Disc 3: The HBO broadcast version. The “HBO broadcast version” in particular surpasses even the complete press DVD “COMPLETE BUDOKAN 1977 EVENING SHOW/AFTERNOON SHOW.” This is the most beautiful, ultimate quality version of any first visit to Japan to date.
