Description

All ‘confirmed’ Revenge demos and outtakes in the best circulating quality.

Having overcome the death of Eric Carr, the 1992 masterpiece ‘REVENGE’ became their finest work from their no-makeup era. Now, the definitive edition featuring all of its demos and outtakes in the highest quality is here.

This album permanently preserves all 28 takes of studio recordings. We have previously introduced demo albums that complement classic albums such as “DRESSED TO KILL,” “LOVE GUN,” and “HOT IN THE SHADE,” but this is the “REVENGE version.”

Speaking of session recordings for “REVENGE,” “REVENGE SESSIONS (Zodiac 479)” is a staple at our store, but this release is neither a remastered reissue nor simply an expansion pack. It is the ultimate new master, directly digitized from the original cassette master unearthed through our own insider network, and includes all existing demo takes and outtakes in the best quality. It is the true definitive edition. Now, let’s introduce all 28 takes included.

[DISC 1]
● “Domino” (2 takes)
Starting with recordings from the very early stages of the “REVENGE” sessions. Track 1 is an 8-track demo recorded by Gene in early 1991 at SILENT RAGE and Right Track Studio, a version similar to the final version but different. Track 2 is a vocal track recorded in early 1992 at Rumbo Recorders. You can trace how the song was refined from 1991 to 1992.

● “Unholy” (2 takes)
is one of the most noteworthy aspects of this album. Track 3 is an early demo of the lead single “Unholy,” a shocking take that may feature Vinnie Vincent on guitar. Track 4 is the final demo version, which includes a solo by Bruce Kulick.

If track 3 is indeed a take featuring Vinnie, then these two takes offer a goosebump-inducing documentary value, allowing us to witness the process by which “Unholy” was passed from Vinnie to Bruce.

● “Take It Off” (5 Takes):
The album track is broken down into five session takes. Two instrumental takes, breakdown harmonies, gang vocals, and scat vocals—listening to them in sequence reveals the raw version of the finished song. It’s fascinating as a “blueprint,” allowing you to relive how the song’s framework was fleshed out.

● “Heart of Chrome” (6 takes)
Similarly, this track is broken down into six takes: two instrumental takes, an instrumental with lead guitar, scat vocals, breakdown harmonies, and ending harmonies. The parts are even more intricate than in “Take It Off,” clearly demonstrating Bob Ezrin’s production method of recording each part individually and then meticulously assembling them.

● “Spit” (Gang Vocals)
Background vocal track. This is a valuable track where you can hear the gang vocals that created that powerful sound in the finished version on their own.

[DISC 2]
● “Tough Love” (4 Takes)
Two instrumental takes and one scat vocal take, plus the “Expo Version” in which Bruce Kulick played a solo over the demo version during the 1995 KISS Convention Tour, for a total of four takes. The “Expo Version” is an additional track for completers, but it is an interesting track where you can enjoy an alternate take of Bruce’s solo.

● “Paralyzed” (Extended Mix):
An alternate mix with an extended ending. This song appeared as “(She’s Got Me) Paralyzed” during the ‘HOT IN THE SHADE’ sessions and was later further modified for ‘REVENGE’, so it’s interesting to compare it with ‘THE COMPLETE HOT IN THE SHADE SESSIONS (Zodiac 869)’.

● “I Just Wanna” (Instrumental)
A raw instrumental take. This is the pure instrumental material before the vocals were added.

● “Thou Shalt Not” (2 takes):
Includes an instrumental take and an alternate take with different vocals than the final version. The alternate vocal version highlights the difference in approach from the final version.

●Unreleased Track “Do You Wanna Touch Me Now”
This is one of the most noteworthy outtakes included on this album. It was co-written in 1991 by Paul Stanley and Dave “Snake” Sabo of Skid Row. It was a strong contender for inclusion on the album, and Paul himself is said to have been confident in it, saying, “It’s a great song, but I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t included on a great album like ‘Revenge’.” However, it was never included on any subsequent KISS albums or Paul’s solo albums.

● “Everytime I Look At You” (scat vocals):
This album’s famous ballad is heard in an early, raw vocal take. It captures the raw emotion, different from the polished beauty of the finished version.

● “God Gave Rock And Roll To You II” (2 takes)
One of the most moving endings in the entire “Complete Sessions” series. Two takes are included, one with high harmonies and one with faded harmonies, but what is particularly noteworthy is that this is Eric Carr’s last recording. Although he was already unable to play drums, he participated as a backing vocalist—and his voice is etched into these two takes. A treasure befitting the conclusion of this work, possessing both historical value and emotional impact.
