The latest installment in the soundboard series reveals the truth behind the masterpiece “ALIVE!” A press CD featuring treasures not available in the official Super Deluxe Edition is now available!

This work is roughly divided into three superb soundboards. It is a record that couples the “June 21, 1975 Cleveland performance (6 songs + solo)” and the “July 20, 1975 Davenport performance (4 songs + jam),” as well as “remix tracks (3 songs).” If you have noticed this article, you may be aware that the original soundboards for “ALIVE!” have been appearing one after another recently. This work is also one of those original soundboards. In order to understand the situation, let’s first check the recording date of “ALIVE!” on the schedule at that time.

This is KISS in 1975. Of the four days that formed the basis of “ALIVE!”, two performances were released as “DEFINITIVE DETROIT 1975” and “DEFINITIVE WILDWOOD 1975.” This work is the third installment following those two great masterpieces. However, this work is not a full soundboard of two performances. Let’s introduce each one individually.

[Superb soundboard from Cleveland performance (6 songs + solo)]
The first half of this work is “Cleveland performance on June 21, 1975”. Last year, the 50th anniversary box of “ALIVE!” became a hot topic, and two songs were added to the superb soundboard recorded there.

First, there’s the part that was also included in the official box set. It’s about 28 minutes of “4 songs + Ace’s solo + Chris’ solo.” According to the importer’s materials, like “DEFINITIVE DETROIT 1975” and “DEFINITIVE WILDWOOD 1975,” this is a master that leaked from the production process of the official box set. It’s certainly of a completely official quality that doesn’t even cede half a step to the official box set. In particular, “100,000 Years” is a take that was also included in “ALIVE!”, and this is its extended master.

The official box set only contained the above, but this expanded edition includes two more tracks: “Let Me Know” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” These two songs are the broadcast versions of “King Biscuit Flower Hour,” and when combined with the official box set, this completes the entire album. In particular, “Rock and Roll All Nite” is the performance featured on “ALIVE!”

[Sound check from the Davenport performance (4 songs + jam)]
Next up is the Davenport performance the following month. However, this is not a live performance, but a sound check in which “Rock Bottom” and “Watchin’ You” were adopted for “ALIVE!”, and it is an extended master of about 20 minutes with two more songs, “Room Service” and “Strange Ways”, and jams.

This is also a completely official master leaked from the production process of the official box. The quality and length are almost the same as those recorded in the box.

[3 remix tracks released in 1996]
The final section is a collection of remix tracks from “YOU WANTED THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST!!.” All three tracks are outtakes that were originally produced for “ALIVE!” but never included on the album. Although they were released in 1996, the instruments and vocals are taken from 1975.

The recording dates for the three songs are different, with “Room Service” being a sound check recording from the same Davenport as above, and “Two Timer” and “Let Me Know” being from a Cleveland performance (including a public speech in Detroit on May 16th).

The above is a stereo soundboard recording spanning a total of 16 tracks, 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 16 seconds. Both are extended masters and outtakes from the “ALIVE!” performances, and are permanently preserved as fully official, top-tier masters.

This is a must-have addition to the “ALIVE! Collection,” following “DEFINITIVE DETROIT 1975” and “DEFINITIVE WILDWOOD 1975.” It’s also a convenient way to get a glimpse of rare “ALIVE!”-related tracks that have been scattered throughout official box sets, best-of albums, and FM radio broadcasts. This is a must-listen live album for those looking to deeply appreciate this historic masterpiece. Coming soon!

★Stereo soundboard recordings of the “June 21, 1975 Cleveland performance / July 20, 1975 Davenport performance.” This master was leaked during the production process of the “ALIVE!” 50th anniversary box set, and it offers completely official-grade quality that rivals the official version. The Cleveland performance in particular includes two additional tracks not included in the official box set, plus remix tracks from “YOU WANTED THE BEST, YOU GOT THE BEST!!.” This is a must-have for the “ALIVE! Collection.”
