The Kinks’ “Collected Broadcasts,” which Expensive Woodland Recordings has compiled on four CDs, cover, as the title suggests, a decade of the band’s career, led by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. As always, these are radio or television recordings to which the artists and official record companies have no rights: 58 tracks in total, the first three discs containing performances from the period 1965-68, from the beat era to a sophisticated baroque pop influenced by music hall and psychedelia, with a nice selection of original songs and hits such as “All Day And All Of The Night”, “A Well Respected Man”, “Till The End Of The Day”, “You Really Got Me”, “Tired Of Waiting For You”, “See My Friends”, “Where Have All The Good Times Gone”, “Sunny Afternoon”, “Days”, “Death Of A Clown”, “David Watts” and “The Village Green Preservation Society”, lesser-known songs and rock and roll covers such as Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie” and the Kingsmen’s “Louie Louie”. The fourth disc instead reproduces a concert recorded on June 14, 1975 at the New Victoria Theatre in London during the promotional tour of the concept album “Soap Opera”
