A limited edition release on the Cult Legends label, this four-CD set documents the heyday of one of America’s most celebrated AOR groups using rare early radio recordings. Disc one features a March 1, 1976 concert at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre, shortly after the release of their second album, Look Into Future: the quartet featuring former Santana members Gregg Rolie (keyboards and vocals) and Neal Schon (guitar) and the rhythm section of bassist Ross Valory and drummer Aynsley Dunbar perform a set that also includes the single “On A Saturday Nite” and a cover of the Beatles’ “It’s All Too Much.” The second performance, released at the time as part of the “King Biscuit Flower Hour presents Super Jam Two” program, was recorded on October 1, 1978 at the Automatt studio in San Francisco by the quintet lineup with lead singer Steve Perry and new drummer Steve Smith (the setlist includes songs such as “Feeling That Way”, “Anytime”, “Lights” and “Wheels In The Sky” alongside soul and blues standards such as “Roadrunner”, “Hold On, I’m Coming”, “People Get Ready”, “Crossroads” and “Born Under A Bad Sign”). The third disc features a show at the Summit Houston on April 12, 1980 at the time of the “Departure” album, and includes the huge hit “Anyway You Want It”; the fourth contains the performance of July 21, 1983 at the Lloyd Nobel Center in Norman, Oklahoma at the time of “Frontiers”, with the radio hit “Chain Reaction”, the 45s Top 40 “Send Her My Love” and “Faithfully” and “No More Lies” by Schon and Jan Hammer alongside the old warhorses; in the line-up, on keyboards (and rhythm guitar) is Jonathan Cain, who replaced Rolie three years earlier.
