A mono audience recording of the 1978 Maxis concert by Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, Arthur Cain, and Steve Dior as The Delinquents!

Following the release of his solo debut album, “SO ALONE,” Johnny Thunders brings us a rare recording of The Delinquents, a band he assembled just a few times for a limited time, featuring former New York Dolls/Heartbreakers drummer Jerry Nolan, who was then active as Idles, along with fellow former Dolls Arthur Cain and Steve Dior. While a 1979 live recording of this band was previously available
on the same label’s volatile releases, “You Can’t Sit Down” (TOTH1059) and “NO LIPS” (TOTH1613), this is the first time the 1978 recording has been released! This complete, mono audience recording captures a two-stage concert held at Maxxis Kansas City on December 31, 1978. The sound quality is standard for the time, with the vocals appearing distant during the first
set likely due to the PA system being too loud, but the second set picks up and the vocals are clearly captured. Overall, the recording offers a well-balanced and consistent sound quality. As it was New Year’s Eve, Johnny kicked off the set with a ”
Happy New Year” call. The set
included a cover of “You Can’t Sit Down,” a hit by the Dovels, a doo-wop group popular in the 1960s, with Steve on lead vocals, and singles like “Pretty Baby” and “Take a Chance,” both of which were later released as solo albums by Jerry Nolan. Johnny also sang lead on “Chatterbox,” “Subway Train,” “Born to Lose,” and “Chinese Rocks,” while Steve
took the lead on the Heartbreakers’ “Can’t Keep My Eyes on You.” The second set ended with “I Can Tell,” featuring vocals by Flipper of the Senders, who often collaborates with Johnny. A saxophonist joined in after “Born to Lose,” providing a
