Description
[A complete high-quality recording of the 1995 memorial concert for fellow friend SRV!]
Recently, we released a high-quality digest of the memorial concert for the late Stevie Ray Vaughan held in Austin, Texas, on May 12, 1995, titled “Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Concert 1995: DAT Master (1CD)” from a DAT master brought to us by a veteran taper living in the UK, who is familiar to us for Eric Clapton’s treasured sound source. The high-quality sound far exceeds that of the previously released version.
This time, from another taper, we obtained a DAT master that completely recorded this concert in high-quality stereo audience recording! It is a 3-CD set, and is thought to be the original master of the previously released “The Night After the SRV Tribute” listed on Clapton’s bootleg evaluation site Geetarz. The sound quality evaluation of the previously released version on the site was “Aud 3”, which means “average”, but the master of this work is a DAT copy of the original master, and it far exceeds that.
In other words, you can enjoy the entire concert with the highest sound quality ever. If this work is published in Geetarz, it will be given “Aud 5”, which represents the highest score for audience recording. This is the full-length version of this concert with the best sound quality and the easiest to listen to. The official release is a live version of the concert held the day before, and the name of the next day was “Jimmie Vaughan and Friends”. The purpose was the same as the previous day, but the set list on this day seemed to be more frank and intended to enjoy the blues. The performers were the same as the previous day, and it was a valuable concert where you could hear the collaboration of elite guitarists representing the blues world at that time, including Clapton.
The first half of the set, up to I Like It Like That, is recorded with Jimmie Vaughan’s band. After that set, the first guest, Robert Cray, is invited in. From there, guest guitarists join in one after another, and Clapton participates from Reconsider Baby to the end. This year, Clapton focused on the “Nothin’ But the Blues Tour” that had been continuing since the previous year. Let’s take a look at where this concert was located in the tour schedule.

[A dream collaboration between famous blues guitarists with ties to SRV!]
For Clapton, the death of his young son in 1991, the subsequent “unplugged” show, and the subsequent events led him to once again pursue the spirituality of the blues. This tour was his answer. It can be said that this tour embodied Clapton’s stoicism as a “seeker.” He participated in this concert right after the 1995 European tour, which was in the climax of the tour. It can be said that Clapton’s sincere attitude towards the blues was maintained even in this concert, which was a memorial to his ally SRV, who could be said to have sacrificed himself for the blues, given the timing.
Clapton is featured on Reconsider Baby and Third Degree, which were also included in the set list of the “Nothin’ But the Blues Tour”, and he shows off his solid and passionate playing. Next up is Sweet Home Chicago and I Can’t Quit You Baby, featuring Buddy Guy, where you can enjoy Buddy’s extreme speed playing and wild playing. From here, the all-stars will perform together, and Who’s To Blame (also known as Same Thing), featuring Robert Cray, will be played. This number was not included in the “Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Concert 1995: DAT Master” released by our shop recently, so it is valuable. The following Further On Up The Road is Clapton’s first performance in two years since 1993, but he shares vocals with Buddy and decides on a stable solo. Clapton also features vocals on Let Me Love You Baby, which is connected by a medley, showing that he was treated equally to Buddy. From this point on, we can hear solo performances with Buddy Guy, fellow compatriot and SRV’s older brother Jimmie Vaughan, and junior Robert Cray, and in Clapton’s specialty Early In The Morning, we can hear a tremendous solo battle with Buddy. This is worth a listen. In I Can’t Judge Nobody, you can enjoy the solo rotation of the four players, but since each player is full of individuality, you can also enjoy the difference in playing nuances with Clapton.
In addition, the all-star joint performance Six Strings Down, which was not included in “Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Concert 1995: DAT Master (1CD)”, will be played. At this point, all the players’ tension has reached MAX, and it is a very satisfying listen. And at the end, the all-star jam Shuffle. As specially noted in the session description column of “Eric Clapton Complete Activity Record 1983-2016” by Clapton researcher Mark Roberti, “The jam was the best,” you can hear the four of them performing even more amazing solos on this day. This is also a must-listen. I hope you will be able to feel Clapton’s careful and soulful play even on a flashy stage with a lot of sound from this work.
There are many numbers that can only be heard in this work, which have not been played in the officially released memorial concert video and audio media. Please enjoy the full picture of the second day of the SRV memorial concert, which has the highest sound quality ever, including that.
