ROCKIN BEAR RECORDS – CD
Description
Rockin’ Bear Records is releasing an interesting unofficial CD featuring footage from a vintage radio broadcast of the concert on June 30, 1972, at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco. The Merle Saunders and Friends collective, which had recorded the album “Heavy Turbulence” in 1971 and the LP “Fire Up” the following year, was recreated on stage: in addition to Saunders (keyboards and vocals), the group included Jerry Garcia (lead guitar and vocals), John Kahn (bass), Bill Vitt (drums), and former Creedence Clearwater Revival member Tom Fogerty (rhythm guitar and vocals). From the first of those albums the quintet takes up the cover of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” by The Band, from the second “Expressway (To Your Heart)” by Soul Survivors, peppering the setlist with other classics by ZZ Hill (“Ain’t No Use”), Blind Lemon Jefferson (“One Kind Favor” aka “See That My Grave Is Kept Clean”), Chris Kenner (“Sick And Tired”), Jesse Winchester (“Biloxi”), Elvis Presley (“That’s All Right Mama”) and Bob Dylan (“It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry”)
