JACKSON BROWNE – SARATOGA SPRINGS 1986 Soundboard(2CDR)
Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs, NY, USA 24th June 1986 STEREO SBD
Jackson Browne embarked on a new chapter in 1986 with the celadon-hued “LIVES IN THE BALANCE.” Here comes a soundboard album that will let you hear his voice in your brain.
This work was recorded at the “Saratoga Springs Performance on June 24, 1986.” It is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of professional records of the “LIVES IN THE BALANCE Tour,” the press masterpiece “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD (Zion-240)” and the pro-shot masterpiece “ROCKPALAST 1986” are standard. First, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time and check their respective positional relationships.
●1986
{February 18th “LIVES IN THE BALANCE” released}
・March 1st-4th: North America #1 (3 performances)
・March 15th “ROCKPALAST 1986”
・April 5th: Auckland performance
・April 13th: Santa Cruz performance
・May 14th-August 23rd: North America #2 (39 performances) ←★Here★
・September 26th-November 7th: Europe (24 performances) ←※HAMBURG 1986
・November 22nd-December 5th: Australia (5 performances)
●1987
・January 23rd+26th: Japan (2 performances)
・March 8th-10th: North America #3 (3 performances)
・December 6th: Stockholm performance
This is Jackson Browne in 1986/1987. “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD” was born from the “European” leg at the end of the tour, but this work’s Saratoga Springs performance took place about four months earlier. It was the 13th performance of the main leg, “North America # 2.”
This work, which conveys such a show, is a newly discovered master with a delicious rawness. What was unearthed this time was the master’s second generation cassette, recorded directly from the mix desk. When listening with headphones, you can faintly hear the cheers, but it’s not as elaborate as a broadcast system, and it’s clearly a raw, recorded type. The vocals and guitars are fully exposed, and there’s a sense of synchronization that’s different from the beautifully arranged “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD.”
And not only the sound but also the show content is similar to “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD”. Here, let’s organize the set contents while comparing them.
●Messenger of Love (5 songs)
Tender Is The Night / Downtown (★) / Lawyers In Love / Say It Isn’t True (★) / For A Rocker
●Lives in the Balance (5 songs)
In The Shape Of A Heart / Candy (★) / Black And White / Lives In The Balance / For America
●Other (10 songs)
Lonely Runner: Rosie / Running On Empty / The Load-Out / Stay
Hold Out: Boulevard / That Girl Could Sing
Other: For Everyman / Late For The Sky / The Pretender / Doctor, My Eyes
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are songs that could not be heard on the classic pressing “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD”.
…And so it goes like this. Three songs, “Downtown,” “Say It Isn’t True,” and “Candy,” are marked, but this is not just not on “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD,” but is also a limited song that has not been played after this tour. In particular, “Say It Isn’t True” is a song that cannot be heard even on the pro shot “ROCKPALAST 1986,” and this work is also a live album that pours that rare live performance into your brain with a soundboard.
While not as polished as the “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD,” this is a direct-connected soundboard album that surpasses it in rawness and rarity. This is an essential work for collectors, offering plenty of live performance versions of rare songs. Please enjoy it to the fullest.
★Stereo soundboard recording of the “Saratoga Springs Performance on June 24, 1986.” This is a second-generation master directly connected to the mix table, and is not as elaborate as a broadcast-type recording, but is clearly a raw, raw type. Rare songs not included in the press masterpiece “HAMBURG 1986 SOUNDBOARD,” such as “Downtown,” “Say It Isn’t True,” and “Candy,” are also new masterpieces that will pour a delicious full show into your brain.
