Description
Old Poole Farm, Harleysville, PA, USA 19th August 2006
★UPGRADE!!
Jackson Browne in 2006, who was working on an acoustic tour with his ally David Lindley. This is the ultimate pro shot, which could be called the video version of the official live album “LOVE IS STRANGE: EN VIVO CON TINO.”
This work was filmed at the “Harleysville Performance on August 19, 2006.” It’s a multi-camera pro shot of the band’s appearance at the “PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL,” a traditional music festival that has been running since the 1960s. Although it’s called the “official video version,” although “LOVE IS STRANGE” and this work were both released in 2006, the shows are completely different. To understand the situation, let’s first take a look at the overview of their activities at the time.
January 7th / February 6th + 10th: US #1 (3 shows)
March 9th-29th: Europe #1 (11 shows) ← *Official
April 8th-17th: Australia (4 shows) June 10th-
July 13th: US #2 ( 4 shows)
July 28th-August 9th: Europe #2 ( 9 shows)
August 19th-27th: US #3 (3 shows) ←★Here★ November 6th
: New York performance
[A lustrous and beautiful official pro shot]
I’d like to say this is Jackson Browne in 2006, but it’s actually not very reliable. There are many ambiguities in the documents from that time, and the above is a combination of two contradictory sources. Don’t trust details like the number of shows, just a rough outline. In any case, it’s enough to understand the distance between the official “LOVE IS STRANGE” and this work. While the official live album was produced at “Europe # 1” in early spring, this work’s appearance at “PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL” was a scene from “US # 3” five months later.
This work, which conveys such a stage, is a beautiful, glossy, professional shot. Anyway, the screen is detailed and extremely fresh. I don’t know if it’s a rebroadcast, but it gives off an analog warmth, and there’s no sign of tape deterioration or creases. The visual beauty, with no discoloration or distortion from corner to corner, is just like a laser disc.
The footage itself is also rich in flavor. The stage is essentially a simple one, with the two of them sitting and singing and playing, so there’s no flashy camerawork to be found. However, the switching between the two’s expressions and hands is full of calmness and elegance, beautifully visualizing the emotion of the performance. Moreover, as it’s an outdoor festival held in the middle of the day, the scene is bright and airy. While the audience isn’t visible much, the atmosphere as they applaud the pair’s simple performance is as refreshing as a summer festival.
[A simple yet richly flavorful stage just for the two of them]
The stars of this film are, of course, the classic songs that have colored their glorious career. The selection is similar but not identical to “LOVE IS STRANGE,” so let’s compare them at the end.
●Asylum era (10 songs)
・For Everyman: For Everyman / These Days / Take It Easy
・Late for the Sky: Late For The Sky / For A Dancer (★)
・Pretender: The Pretender (★) / Your Bright Baby Blues

・Other: The Crow On The Cradle / The Barricades of Heaven (★)
*Note: Songs marked with a “★” are not included on the official live album “LOVE IS STRANGE: EN VIVO CON TINO.”
Jackson Browne dominates the show with his mellow, rich vocals, while David Lindley supports him with a variety of instruments, including the Weissenborn, oud, and bouzouki. It’s a multi-camera pro shot where you can stare at the stage where the two overlap sounds.
This is a deep, heart-warming video masterpiece that brings the world of “LOVE IS STRANGE” to life. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
