★First-ever appearance of this soundboard!!

In 2012, THE J. GEILS BAND decided to restart without J. Geils. This newly discovered soundboard album serves as an “official substitute” for that rare period.

This recording captures the “Port Chester performance on September 19, 2012.” It is the first ever soundboard recording of that performance. From the famous Capitol Theatre near New York, soundboard recordings of various artists from the 2010s have been unearthed one after another by the same publisher, and at our store, Steely Dan, Reo Speedwagon, Yes, Duran Duran, and others have been very popular. This week, we received the THE J. Geils Band edition and the Peter Frampton edition.

This album is a superb full live album that uncovers the truth about “THE J. GEILS BAND without J. Geils.” They performed without J. Geils for three years, from 2012 to 2015. Their activities ended there, and Geils himself passed away in 2017. This is a good opportunity to review the timeline and explore the position of this album.

[A soundboard recording so realistic you can almost feel the sweat flying off the drums]
This is THE J. GEILS BAND from 2012 to 2015. In July 2012, the band announced a tour with a new lineup, featuring Duke Levine/Kevin Barry replacing Giles, and tour drummer Tom Alley. Giles filed a lawsuit over the rights to use the band name, but was unable to stop it, and declared his permanent departure from the band. This Port Chester performance is a scene from the “North America #1” tour, the first tour with this new lineup. It was the seventh show of “North America #1b,” approximately three weeks after his departure announcement.

This recording, capturing such a show, is a truly worthy “official alternative” with its vivid soundboard recording. While it follows the series’ common direct connection to the mixing console, the rawness of this recording is extraordinary. The raw, unadulterated freshness, without any processing whatsoever, jumps straight into your ears. Peter Wolf’s vocals and Magic Dick’s harp playing are particularly tremendous, so real and intense that you can almost feel the sweat and saliva flying in your mind. Duke Levine and Kevin Barry’s guitars also stand out with an unusually vivid clarity, and Seth Justman’s keyboards are so distinct that you can almost feel the subtle nuances of his touch. It’s so raw that it feels like an “unearthed official release,” but for jaded soundboard enthusiasts, that’s precisely what makes it so irresistibly appealing.

[A full show featuring rare tracks only available for this month]
This raw sound delivers an incredibly precious full show. Not only is the ensemble without Giles a highlight, but the extremely rare tracks that can only be heard at this time are also a major draw. Let’s take a look at the setlist here.

…And that’s how it goes. A spectacular full show that covers his entire career, from his debut album “THE J. GEILS BAND” to the big hits of “Freeze-Frame” and “Centerfold.” “I Do,” which hasn’t been played since 2013, is a valuable track, but even more valuable are “On Borrowed Time” and “Peter Gunn.” Both are exclusive tracks only played at “North America #1.” In other words, they are extremely rare songs that weren’t even played during the Geils era.

”THE J. GEILS BAND without Geils”… It was a time that made my brain feel like it was glitching and itchy, but the “sound” that was played there was the real deal. This is a cultural heritage album that allows you to experience that full show with otherworldly, direct sound. This two-disc set stands out in the Port Chester soundboard series for its rarity and impact, serving as an “official substitute.” Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
