Steve Harris’s full-body live film is now available on a permanent press DVD. This is the pro-shot footage version of the official live work “THE BOOK OF SOULS: LIVE CHAPTER.”

　Since the turn of the 21st century, IRON MAIDEN has released an official live album and DVD for almost every album. “THE BOOK OF SOULS WORLD TOUR 2016-2017” was no exception, resulting in the release of the live album “LIVE CHAPTER.” However, this time was a little different from usual. The customary DVD video was not released, and only the live album was released. The video video was distributed free online. Of course, no shortcuts were taken just because it was distributed. As with previous videos, Steve, the band’s director, personally edited and supervised the production, resulting in a perfectly crafted, multi-camera, pro-shot work. Steve stated in an interview that “DVDs don’t sell that well anymore,” which would make live CDs even more difficult. He also stated in the same interview that “Our fans want merchandise. They won’t settle for downloads.”

　Regardless, enthusiasts around the world who assumed they could buy the DVD were surprised. Moreover, the entire release was only available initially, and now it’s being distributed in sections, song by song. The opening intro movie has also been removed. Magazine reviews have also called for a physical DVD release, and forums around the world have sparked speculation, with some saying things like, “Maybe they’ve released too many DVDs and feel saturated,” and others saying, “Maybe they’re planning to release a DVD of Donington 92 in the near future, and this is to build anticipation for that.” This release lives up to those expectations. It’s a press DVD that will permanently preserve the full pro shots that were streamed.

　Its contents are flawless official pro shots. While the definitive pro shot “WACKEN 2016” also came from this tour, which was a live broadcast of one show, this work carefully selects the best takes from 14 locations on the world tour. Currently, IRON MAIDEN seems to be recording and filming every show, and Steve himself checks everything from there and assembles it with “This is it!” That’s why the performance is so perfect. “WACKEN 2016” still has a delicious, one-off live performance, but to be honest, it’s not quite up to snuff. It couldn’t be called the “best show.” However, every song on this work is a masterpiece that Steve himself is convinced of.

　This work is also elaborately edited. The aforementioned “The Number Of The Beast” from the Wacken performance and “The Book Of Souls” and “Blood Brothers” from the Donington performance have previously been broadcast professional shots, but this work is edited from a different angle. Steve’s favorite zoom cuts are used extensively, and overlapping processing is also added. Also, most of Bruce’s talk is cut out overall (perhaps because there are a lot of local stories?), and the performance is structured so that the performance continues. In that respect, the vivid documentary feeling is diminished (after all, “WACKEN 2016” is also hard to throw away), but it is a professional shot with the dignity of a “work.”
　”WACKEN 2016″ was also a truly wonderful full-length pro shot. The aforementioned vividness and “Tears of a Clown” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” which are not included in this work, are also valuable. Even now, the value of “WACKEN 2016” has not diminished in the slightest. However, this work is undoubtedly the pinnacle of its success. This is an official work following “ROCK IN RIO,” “DEATH ON THE ROAD,” and “EN VIVO!”, and is a video version of the live version of the original album.
　It’s sad that we can’t have such a masterpiece at hand. It’s so sad. Currently, individual songs are available for free, and there’s no point in just compiling them on a DVD. If they’re not going to release it officially, someone has to press it into a complete disc. That’s what this is. It’s a “work” that will last forever.
