Description
An unofficial LP on the 1960s Records label documents, through tracks recovered from BBC Sessions from 1966-1967, the golden age of organist and singer Georgie Fame, a key figure in the British R&B and cool jazz scene of the time. Accompanied by the ever-changing lineup of the Blue Flames (which also included drummer John “Mitch” Mitchell before joining Jimi Hendrix’s Experience and which included a horn section), in these 16 tracks that include different versions of the same songs, the Hammond wizard moves between jazz, Latin music, pop, ska and soul of the Atlantic and Motown brands in a repertoire that includes his hit “Get Away”, “Sweet Thing” by the Spinners, “See Saw” by Aretha Franklin, “Funny How Time Sleeps Away” by Willie Nelson, “Sunny” by Bobby Hebb and “El Pussycat” by Mongo Santamaria.
