Description

Saratoga Performing Arts Centre, Saratoga Springs, New York, USA 30th June 1980 STEREO SBD
 GENESIS is discovering shocking soundboards one after another. The latest edition, “DUKE Tour”, will be released simultaneously.
 This work is the second part of the two-part series from the “DUKE” era. It is a stereo soundboard recording of the “Saratoga Springs Performance on June 30, 1980.” This week, it is being released simultaneously with “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD (Amity 823),” but although it is the same tour, the contents are quite different. To understand the circumstances, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time along with the representative soundboard.

Production of “FACE VALUE” begins in August}
 This is GENESIS in 1980. Many of the soundboards / pro shots of the “DUKE Tour” are from the first half of the “UK” leg, but the Saratoga Springs performance of this work was the final performance of the second half of the “North American” leg.
 This work, which conveys such a show, is a soundboard that depicts the finest. Like its sister work “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD,” it starts with an audience recording, but this was supplemented by the person who released it on the same day. When you switch to the main soundboard in about one minute, a tremendously clear sound spreads.
 And its personality is similar to “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD.” Even when listening carefully with headphones, the cheers are barely audible, thanks to the direct connection to the mix desk, allowing the live performances and vocals to shine through. While this direct connection is common to the series, these two albums are incredibly clear and bright throughout. Perhaps this was a characteristic of the entire tour, but it seems like a sound perfectly suited to the “DUKE” numbers, which boast catchy melodies and complex developments.
 While the sound is very similar to “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD,” the show content is quite different. The “DUKE Tour” had different sets for the “UK” leg and the “North American” leg, and this two-part series represents both. Here, let’s organize the full set while comparing them.
●When they were a trio (9 songs)
・And then the three remained: Deep In The Motherlode/The Lady Lies
・Duke: Behind The Lines/Duchess/Guide Vocal/Turn It On Again/Duke’s Travels/Duke’s End/Misunderstanding (★)
●Classics (6 songs +α)
・Moonlit Knight: Dancing With The Moonlit Knight/I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)
・Trick of the Tale: Squonk/Ripples…/Dance On A Volcano/Los Endos
・Medley: In the Cage/The Colony of Slippermen/Afterglow
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are not included on the sister album “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD (Amity 823)”.
…And that’s how it goes. The number of songs has been reduced, but the ones that have been cut are the older, more familiar songs. On the other hand, a new song, “Misunderstanding,” has been added, giving the “DUKE Tour” a stronger color.
 Like its sister album, “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD,” this release is supplemented by audience recordings in several locations, and is introduced through the Amity label. The main quality and impact of this release make it a new discovery of press quality. This album itself is a classic live album of progressive rock, and listening to it alongside its sister album allows you to experience the changes in the tour. This is a new masterpiece that is enjoyable no matter how you listen to it. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

★Stereo soundboard recording of the “Saratoga Springs Performance on June 30, 1980.” This is one of the recent series of first-time soundboards, featuring a direct connection to the Mick desk and an extremely clear and direct soundboard. This is a new masterpiece that allows you to enjoy the full show of the second half of the tour, which has a significantly different set from the sister album “GLASGOW 1980 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD” from the first half of the tour.
