Description
Genesis’s first live album was released by Charisma on July 20, 1973, and features songs recorded on February 24 and 25 of that year at Manchester’s Free Trade Hall (“Return of the Giant Hogweed”) and Leicester’s De Montfort Hall (the other four tracks on the setlist). It’s back on LP for the first time in 16 years, with the Italian edition’s cover featuring a close-up of Peter Gabriel in the famous flower costume he wore on the “Foxtrot” tour. The first two songs on the setlist (“Watcher of the Skies” and “Get ’em Out by Friday”) are from that album, while the next two (“The Return of the Giant Hogweed” and “The Musical Box”) are taken from “Nursery Cryme,” and the closing “The Knife” from “Trespass.” Gabriel (lead vocals, flute, tambourine, bass drum) leads the classical quintet featuring Tony Banks (Hammond organ, Mellotron, Hohner Pianet, 12-string guitar, backing vocals), Steve Hackett (lead guitar), Mike Rutherford (bass, bass pedal synthesizer, 12-string guitar, backing vocals) and Phil Collins (drums, percussion and backing vocals).
