Description

Henry W. Maier Festival Park, Milwaukee, WI, USA 29th June 1987 SBD
Ace Frehley’s debut album, “FREHLEY’S COMET,” signaled his return to the world in 1987. This soundboard album will bring that live performance right into your brain.
Included in this work is the “Milwaukee Performance on June 29, 1987.” It is a soundboard recording from their appearance at the music festival “Summerfest.” FREHLEY’S COMET’s history can be broadly divided into two periods: “Before their debut (1984/1985)” and “After their debut (1987/1988),” and this work documents the latter. First, let’s take a look at the band’s activities during the “after their debut” period and then delve into the position of this work.

This is FREHLEY’S COMET from 1984/1988. While there were no public activities in 1986, live performances resumed in 1987 to coincide with the release of “FREHLEY’S COMET.” The tour continued in two parts, spanning from “North America #1” to the following year’s “HAMMERSMITH ODEON 1988 (Shades 2476)” as the “FREHLEY’S COMET Tour.” Only the final “North America #4” was a “SECOND SIGHTING Tour.” During this journey, this album’s appearance at “Summerfest” marked the eighth performance of “North America #1,” shortly after the release of their first album. It also came about two months before the recently acclaimed “CHICAGO 1987 (Shades 2475).”
This work, which conveys such a stage, is a clear and direct FM soundboard. The recently announced “CHICAGO 1987” was a sound that split opinions between soundboards and audiences, but this work is an FM soundboard that was digitized directly from the original air check master. Perhaps due to the characteristics of the original broadcast, it has a vintage sound that is more 80s-like than official, but its freshness is outstanding. There are almost no dubbing marks or deterioration over time, and even the finest details are preserved. The direct feeling of the guitar in particular is overwhelming, and even the nuances of the pick rubbing against the unevenness of the guitar strings are clearly conveyed to the brain.
The super direct sound depicts a stage that exceeds the highly popular “CHICAGO 1987”. After all, the number of songs is amazing. Let’s organize the set by comparing them here.
●Frehley’s Comet (8 songs)
Stranger in a Strange Land / Something Moved / Love Me Right (★) / In the Night / Rock Soldiers / Breakout / Calling to You / We Got Your Rock (★)
●70s (2 songs + 4 songs)
Solo album: Rip It Out / New York Groove
KISS numbers: Cold Gin / Shock Me / Deuce (★) / Rocket Ride
*Note: Songs marked with “★” are not included in the classic album “CHICAGO 1987.”
…And that’s how it goes. It covers the entire repertoire heard on “CHICAGO 1987,” and adds three more songs. Among them, “Love Me Right” and “We Got Your Rock” haven’t been performed since he became a solo artist, and “We Got Your Rock” in particular is a delicious song that can’t be heard even on “HAMMERSMITH ODEON 1988 (Shades 2476),” a masterpiece from the same tour.
The Frehley’s Comet era was one of the most mysterious periods in Ace’s career. This soundboard album sheds light on the band’s only full-scale tour, “North America #1.” This album will fill your brain with a plethora of classics that surpass even the masterpiece “Chicago 1987.” Enjoy it to the fullest.
★Soundboard recording of “Summerfest” performance on June 29, 1987. This is a masterpiece digitized directly from the original air check master, and it is extremely fresh. “Love Me Right” and “We Got Your Rock,” which he stopped performing after becoming a solo artist, are also delicious new masterpieces on the soundboard.
