Description

On August 30, 1973, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention held the first of three Italian concerts at the Stadio Comunale in Bologna (the others were held in Rome and Genoa) in the year of the release of the album “Over-Nite Sensation.” None of the songs from that album appear on the setlist of this unofficial CD edited by Laser Media, which recovered a radio recording for the occasion. Contemporary reports recount the enthusiasm of the audience (around ten thousand spectators) and the specialized press for a show in which Zappa’s guitar, as always the great protagonist and a lucidly crazy and brilliant bandleader, dialogued with partners of the highest caliber such as violinist Jean-Luc Ponty, keyboardist George Duke, and keyboardist/wind player Ian Underwood; the setlist included famous songs such as “Cosmik Debris,” “RDNZL,” and “The Beatles.”
