Description

Taken from UK Original Mono LP (Blue Horizon 7-63205) released in 1968
The next album released by an artist is often described as an extension of the previous one, and Fleetwood Mac’s 60s masterpiece second album “Mr. Wonder” is basically the same, and like the previous album, it is filled with orthodox blues and blues rock. However, a brass section and piano have been added, making it more soulful. Peter Green’s songwriting has also improved by working with manager Clifford Adams. The reason this second album is as good as the masterpiece first album is simply because they succeeded in capturing the band’s momentum at the time in the album. And above all, it is because it is full of respect for blues pioneers such as B.B. King.
In other words, “Mr. Wonder” is the second album that captures the band’s momentum, which was too much for the first album. Compared to the first album, which had a very raw and direct sound, there is a sense of ingenuity in the recording, but the momentum of the band’s performance is still as intense as the previous album. Christine McVie (whose last name was Perfect at the time), who first participated in Fleetwood Mac’s recordings on this album and has since become an indispensable member, is merely a supporting figure at this point. This is because the band’s momentum was so incredible on this album as well.
Of course, the second album has also had an official release of an expanded stereo mix. This has remained the norm to this day. However, the mono mix LP has been neglected for a long time. August 1968, when this album was released, was also a time when mono was in high demand, and mono mixes were made as a matter of course. However, like the debut album, the mono version of “MR. WONDERFUL” has never been reissued on CD or subscription services to this day. Perhaps it is more likely that it will never be released in the future.
So, at the same time as the first album, it was released on CD from the UK original mono LP. This album is a lively studio album, recorded in one take, just like the first album. In fact, the brass section and Christine were also in the studio together, and it was recorded in one go. It may be hard to imagine now that it has become commonplace to assemble sounds in the studio since the appearance of Pro Tools, but this album is a compilation of the passionate results of a live recording in the studio with not only the band but also the support.
That’s why the listening experience of hearing the momentum and rawness of the first album’s “extension” sound in mono is exceptional. On the contrary, they simply sing and record their favorite blues more than in the previous album. The piano and horns are merely accessories, and the band’s presence is strong on this album as well.
So this album also starts with “Stop Messin’ Round” and continues with a performance that seems to push you forward, but when you hear a slow blues like “Love That Burns” in mono with the horns, it feels convincing when you play it at a high volume from the speakers. Of course, the scratch noise was thoroughly removed when this was made into a CD, and even when you turn up the volume, you can’t hear any noise at all!
What’s even more noteworthy is that the guitars of Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer sound more raw and raw than in stereo, which is a true testament to the mono sound. This texture is also something that we would like you to play at a loud volume from your speakers. The straightforward passion of the first album and the confident performance of the second album. Both albums have the full power of mono that you can’t get in stereo, and they are the world’s first CD releases with the clearest sound! Of course, the original UK mono version is now at a premium price and difficult to obtain. It’s hard to believe that it was created by a young man in his early 20s, but this masterpiece, which represents British rock in the 60s along with the debut album, is a must-listen-to mono mix that you won’t find anywhere else!

★Like their debut album, Fleetwood Mac’s second album is a masterpiece of 60’s British rock, and has been meticulously transferred from the original UK mono version! This work has also only been officially reissued in stereo mix, so you can only listen to it here! The sticky, authentic British blues rock of this era can only be heard in mono! The impact of the jacket is famous, but the album’s contents have also evolved to include soulful elements such as brass and keyboards, making it a masterpiece! Please enjoy this rare mono mix!
