Description
Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN, USA 8th October 1975 STEREO SBD
The Doobie Brothers in 1975, the biggest turning point of their career, was when Michael McDonald joined the band. This soundboard album will let you experience the live performance of that turning point in your mind.
This work was recorded at the Memphis performance on October 8, 1975. It is a stereo soundboard recording. McDonald participated as a substitute for Tom Johnston, who collapsed during the US tour. In other words, the “1975 US tour” is divided into before and after McDonald due to a slight difference in time, and the meaning changes completely. First of all, let’s look at the overview of the activities at that time and explore the position of this work.
・January 16th – February 7th: Europe (14 shows)
・March 4th – April 8th: North America #1a (6 shows)
{Michael McDonald participates}
・April 14th – 24th: North America #2b (10 shows)
{April 25th: “STAMPEDE” released}
・April 25th – May 29th: North America #2c (20 shows)

・August 18th – November 1st: North America #2 (51 shows) ←★Here★

This is THE DOOBIE BROTHERS in 1975. “STAMPEDE” was completed in the fall of 1974, and the US tour began before the album was released. However, after six shows, Tom dropped out due to a stomach ulcer. So they welcomed McDonald and successfully completed “North America #1”. The Memphis performance in this work was the 30th concert of the tour restart edition “North America #2” with a further off day.
This show was broadcast on WBCN’s famous program “King Biscuit Flower Hour” and is a classic among classics that has produced many existing groups. This work is also a classic sound board, but it is the highest peak version that has been made into a CD from the best master that was recently released. In fact, the sound is completely official. In the first place, “King Biscuit Flower Hour” is a famous program where excavated sound sources have been made official by various bands. There is no gap in the recording or mix, so it is naturally completely official.
What is drawn with such quality is the generous behavior of the “STAMPEDE” number. Well, not at all. Let’s check out the slightly unexpected set contents here.
●Toulouse Street (2 songs)
Jesus Is Just Alright / Rockin’ Down The Highway
●Captain and Me (4 songs)
South City Midnight Lady / Long Train Runnin’ / China Grove / Without You
●Doobie Heaven (3 songs)
Road Angel / Eyes Of Silver / Black Water

●Doobie Heaven (3 songs)
Road Angel / Eyes Of Silver / Black Water
…And so it is. There are no “STAMPEDE” numbers at all. A condensed and reduced set of the three previous albums. As you can see from the schedule above, it was about five and a half months after the album was released, and McDonald has performed about 60 times, so it’s not due to a lack of rehearsal. It’s probably edited to fit the 50-minute broadcast time frame, but even so, there’s no hit single “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)”… It’s a completely inexplicable selection.
Anyway, this is sure to be a record that allows you to enjoy the live performance that just got McDonald’s with completely official quality. A stage of a turning point where you unexpectedly discover a new world and are fired up by its possibilities. Please enjoy this work of the highest quality.
