DIRE STRAITS – COLLECTED BROADCASTS (5 CD)

Description

This volume, part of the unofficial “Collected Broadcasts” series published by Expensive Woodland Recordings, features the usual five-CD format (a discounted box set), featuring radio broadcast material related to Dire Straits. The first and second CDs feature the March 31, 1979, concert at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco, during the tour to promote their second album, “Communiqué,” undertaken by the original quartet of Mark Knopfler, David Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers. The next two compact discs document the show of 26 April 1986 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Australia during the “Brothers In Arms” tour, with the reshuffled and expanded lineup comprising Alan Clark (keyboards), Guy Fletcher (keyboards and backing vocals), Terry Williams (drums), Jack Sonni (guitar and backing vocals), Chris White (saxophone and flute) and Joop de Korte (percussion) alongside Mark Knopfler (vocals and guitar) and Illsey (bass and backing vocals): the setlist closes with an interview with Knopfler and manager Ed Bicknell. The last disc (with presumably incorrect credits on the cover) does not contain the performance of September 19, 1992 in Cava de’ Tirreni but the one of the previous July 30 at the Vallehovin Stadium in Oslo during the “On Every Street World Tour”, with Knopler, Illsey, Clark, Fletcher, White, Phil Palmer (guitar and backing vocals), Paul Franklin (pedal steel), Chris Whitten (drums) and Danny Cummings (percussion and backing vocals).
