Description
The excellent soundboard recording of the concert that Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice performed on August 24, 1969, at the Paradiso in Amsterdam is back in circulation as an unofficial LP on colored vinyl in a limited edition. It’s one of the earliest surviving records of the classic “Mark II” lineup, first documented on record by “Deep Purple In Rock.” Two future classics from that album—”Child In Time” and “Speed King,” still under the working title of “Kneel And Pray” and with different lyrics—open the setlist, which is rounded out by tracks from earlier repertoire (the instrumental “Wring That Neck,” a “Mandrake Root” supplemented by a recording made the following October 11 at the Essen Pop & Blues Festival) and a frenetic version of “Paint It Black,” which gives Paice a chance to unleash his drums before closing with the first single, “Hush,” a Joe South cover.
