documentary film “Cracked Actor: A Film About David Bowie” produced by the BBC, which captures David Bowie from the 1974 “Diamond Dogs” North American tour to the production of “Young Americans”, is now available in a DVD + Blu-ray Special Edition! This DVD contains two versions of the rare documentary film “Cracked Actor,” which was broadcast on BBC TV in 1975 and has been sealed away for a long time: the widescreen version broadcast in 2013 and the original TV broadcast version. This must-see documentary captures precious live footage from the 1974 US tour, which was a hot topic for its elaborate stage set and theatrical stage development, but was forced to change midway through, as well as interviews and fan behavior at the time. You can get a glimpse of the unique stage direction, such as “Cracked Actor,” a skit in which the band holds a skull in one hand, “Space Oddity,” where the band floats in the air while sitting on a chair, and “Time,” where the band sings with a giant palm covered with light bulbs. The widescreen version rebroadcast in 2013 has been trimmed and edited for a 16:9 wide screen and the image quality has been upconverted to HD quality, and includes an introduction by director Alan Yentob at the beginning. The new remastered footage is the original TV broadcast monaural sound source, but in this main part, it is a unique updated version replaced with the first appearance sound source by AI stereo remastering. In particular, the sound quality improvement by stereoizing the live scene is different from the previous one. In addition, the original TV broadcast version that was broadcast at that time is also recorded in the second half. The original version is an unedited version including the top and bottom parts that were cut by trimming in the widescreen version in the standard 4:3 screen of the TV broadcast at that time. Although this original version has been made into many videos in the past, the image quality has deteriorated, but this recording is the first time that it has been released in HD quality with unprecedented high image quality, and the precious original version with a field of view not seen in the widescreen version is recorded in the highest image quality. In addition to the two main versions similar to the DVD recording, the coupling Blu-ray Disc (BDR) also includes “Live 1974 Video Archives” not included in the DVD. The two versions of “Cracked Actor” were originally TV footage from the 1970s, but the image quality has been significantly improved by HD upconversion, which is clearer when played on Blu-ray than on DVD. And the “Live 1974 Video Archives” is a revised Blu-ray version of the same label’s “Live 1974” DVD version, and includes rare excavated footage of “Can You Hear Me” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll With Me,” which were only released on Blu-ray, as well as the restored version of “Jean Genie,” which is being recorded for the first time. With specifications unique to Blu-ray, the total recording time is over 160 minutes, including the main documentary.
