Description

Three classic Clash broadcasts are back on an unofficial triple CD set on Expensive Woodland Recordings: the first is the infamous September 20, 1979 show at New York’s Palladium, during which Paul Simonon destroyed his bass, giving photographer Pennie Smith the perfect shot for the legendary cover of “London Calling” (the footage draws on previous singles and albums, “The Clash” and “Give ‘Em Enough Rope”); the second is a concert from the “Impossible Mission Tour,” staged to promote “Sandinista,” which stopped at the Jaap Edenhal in Amsterdam on May 10, 1981 (shortly before arriving in Italy); the third closes the program with another famous performance, the one held on January 29, 1982 at the Nakano Sunplaza in Tokyo, three and a half months before the release of “Combat Rock” from which the band anticipated “Know Your Rights” and “Should I Stay or Should I Go”
