Little John’s Farm, Reading, UK 25th August 1979 PRO-SHOT

CHEAP TRICK in 1979 opened the door to their heyday with “AT BUDOKAN”. Here is the best footage of the UK festival they performed at on the back of that momentum.

This work was shot at the Reading Festival on August 25, 1979. It is a multi-camera pro shot. Speaking of 1979, it was a golden age when “AT BUDOKAN” reached No. 4 in the US, followed by “DREAM POLICE” which reached No. 6 in the US, but they also made a big leap in their live performances. To explain that, let’s start by taking a look at the overview of their activities at that time.

・January 2-13: North America #1 (7 shows)
{February “AT BUDOKAN” US release}
・January 31-March 9: Europe #1 (17 shows) ←※ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE
・March 17-30: Japan (12 shows)
・April 7-August 21: North America #2 (77 shows)
・August 25-September 2: Europe #2 (5 shows) ←★Here★
・September 9: East Troy show
{September 21 “DREAM POLICE” release}
・September 20-30: North America #3 (7 shows)
・October 16-November 2: Oceania (9 shows)
・November 27: Honolulu show
・December 27-31: North America #4 (4 shows)

This is CHEAP TRICK in 1979. The years 1978 and 1980 were also filled with live performances. We have archived many bands, but we don’t know any other bands that have performed as many stages as CHEAP TRICK. The late 1970s were particularly harsh for their career. It was a time of peak in both name and reality. The Reading appearance in this work was the first day of such a “Europe #2” concert. This day was also the highlight of the British invasion. Their first visit to the UK was in 1978, but their full-scale UK tour was realized at the above-mentioned “Europe #1”. It was because of their fame there that they were able to perform at Reading seven months later.

Anyway, this work, which conveys such a historic stage, is a so-called “official class” masterpiece. What’s great about it is the freshness of the master, with no dubbing marks or deterioration over time. It is not known whether it is a digital rebroadcast or an excavation of the original master, but there is no evidence of analog at all. The freshness is also firmly in the sound board audio. The mix that whispers loud cheers in the distance is a direct-connection system, and since it is mono, it is not official style, but it is a type that is often found on TV broadcasts. Above all, there are no signs of analog peculiar to this one, such as twisting, shaking, and noise.

Such digital quality depicts a great performance that conquered the UK. Speaking of professional shots in 1979, “ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE (Shades 1345)” and “GERMANY 1979 (appeared in “ROCKPALAST” five days after this work)” are standard in our shop, but this work is longer than either of them. Finally, let’s organize the set while comparing it with both of them.

●Pale Highway (5 songs)
Hello There/Come On, Come On/Big Eyes (★★)/Clock Strikes Ten (★★)/I Want You To Want Me
●Others (7 songs)
Heaven’s Trap: Stiff Competition/On Top Of The World (★)/Surrender
Others; Ain’t That A Shame/Need Your Love/I Know What I Want (★)/Goodnight Now (★)
*Note: The “★” mark is a song that was not seen in the masterpiece pro shot “ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE 1979”. In particular, the “★★” mark is a song that was not seen in “GERMANY 1979”.

“ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE” and “GERMANY 1979” were great, but the open feeling of the outdoor stage and the tension of the festival with other bands are still exceptional. This is a professional shot work that allows you to enjoy the whole special stage even at the peak of such a period. It is an absolute must-have album along with “AT BUDOKAN”. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

★ Multi-camera pro shot of “Reading Festival performance on August 25, 1979”. It is not known whether it is a digital rebroadcast or an excavation of the original master, but there is no trace of analog at all. The freshness is also firmly in the sound board audio. It is an absolute video that allows you to enjoy the climax of the masterpieces with the explosive tension of a famous festival appearance.
