From 1975 to 1976, Bob Dylan and numerous other incredible musicians toured the United States in celebration of the country’s 200th anniversary with the legendary “Rolling Thunder Revue.” With the release of a new live box set and film in 2019, this tour has once again garnered attention. This video anthology, “Rolling Thunder Revue: Tour Archives 1975/1976,” is now available as a two-disc DVD set, featuring five hours of rare live footage, TV broadcasts, and unreleased live footage from the tour. From the original live footage first seen in the latest film, to the elusive tour documentary film “Renaldo & Clara,” to the original US and Japanese versions of “Hard Rain,” the 1976 live album, and even previously unreleased live footage, this must-see compilation conveys the splendor and energy of this legendary tour. This is the definitive collector’s edition, which has been updated with the latest restoration and editing to bring you the best of the original footage and sound quality!
The first section of DVD 1, “Live from Rolling Thunder Revue,” features original live footage first seen in the latest film. This is a best-of collection, including cuts and edits not included in the film. The following section, “Live from Renaldo and Clara,” features highlights from the tour documentary “Renaldo and Clara.” This film also features rare live footage, including solo performances by Joan Baez and Roger McGuinn, as well as Mick Ronson’s distinctive guitar playing. The remastered stereo soundtrack, unlike the mono soundtrack previously available, is a highlight. The “Unreleased TV Special” is a shelved live performance filmed at the Bellevue Hotel in Clearwater, Florida, in 1976. It features a remarkable tracklist that is almost entirely different from the original TV broadcast. While the quality of the leaked footage remains the same, both the original audio and the remastered audio, with enhanced sound quality, are included. DVD 2 includes two versions of the original TV special “Hard Rain”: the original US version and the Japanese version. Unlike the unreleased live performances, this large-scale outdoor stadium rock performance, part of which was featured on the live album “Hard Rain,” has long been a beloved live performance staple. While it has been available in various formats since the video era, the video quality has only been consistent. This new release features a newly restored and edited version that further improves the video quality of the original, which was dark and had poor color reproduction. The audio, like the “Unreleased TV Special,” is also available in a significantly improved, enhanced stereo remastered version, along with the original mono version (both audio options allow for comparison). The complete “World of John Hammond” TV live performance, featuring the band’s much-talked-about single “Hurricane” prior to their 1975 tour, is also included. This is a highly recommended latest video collection that includes a total of 5 hours of footage related to the legendary tour “Rolling Thunder Revue” in the latest restored edit.
