Description

Five Blondie CDs enrich the unofficial “Collected Broadcasts” box set series published by Expensive Woodland Recordings, drawing from the vast reservoir of out-of-copyright radio and television recordings. The period following the release of the band’s self-titled debut album, led by Debbie Harry, includes the early and late shows held on September 21, 1977, at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco. The setlists were quite different, and included the singles “X Offender” and “In The Flesh,” other early classics such as “Kung Fu Girls,” and a version of The Doors’ “Moonlight Drive,” which the late drummer Clem Burke gave a disco-punk beat. The third CD features a WBCN broadcast of a show that took place at the Paradise in Boston on May 27, 1978, with old and new favorites such as “Rip Her To Shreds,” “(I’m Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear,” “Denis” (by Randy & The Rainbows) and the then-unreleased megahit “Heart Of Glass,” which was obviously also included in the setlist of a subsequent show (November 4, 1978) recorded at the same venue and in which the group performed another classic, “One Way Or Another,” and three covers (“Denis,” “Hanging On The Telephone” by the Nerves, and “Get It On” by T. Rex). The last disc contains a live presentation of the 1979 album “Parallel Lines” and a performance on December 1 of the same year at the Palladium in Dallas.
