August 1965, The Beatles went on their second large-scale US tour following the previous year. Their popularity in the US reached its peak, and many performances were held at outdoor stadiums, setting unprecedented new records in the number of spectators. The tour kicked off with the New York Shea Stadium performance on August 15th, which was a historic concert with more than 55,000 spectators and a box office revenue of $304,000, the highest record in show business history. The 1965 American tour was the ultimate peak of Beatlemania, and many audio and video recordings have been left over since the previous year, including the Hollywood Bowl performance, which was later released as a live album. This collection is a 2CD & 2DVD 4-disc special edition as a historical anthology of the 1965 North American tour, carefully selecting existing live audio and video recordings from the many records left at that time and compiling them in the latest edits. The 2 CDs contain a representative soundboard broadcast recording of almost all the concerts recorded on this tour, and 4 performances including the Ed Sullivan Show, newly remastered by Stereo Demix. CD1 contains all the studio live songs, including the rehearsal of “HELP!”, which was played at the end of the Ed Sullivan Show recorded on August 14, the day before the Shea Stadium performance. Next, the legendary concert on August 15 at New York’s Shea Stadium is recorded in the complete original live recordings. The Shea Stadium performance was also recorded and a live recording was made, but due to problems with the recording itself and the performance, it was replayed in the studio the following year, replaced and edited, and remade for TV broadcast. There was no time for this pre-production, so “Twist and Shout” was recorded from the Hollywood Bowl sound source of the previous year, and “Act Naturally” was overdubbed from the studio version and several songs were cut, making it incomplete. The “Complete Inline Recording” recorded here is a complete recording of the original live sound source before editing. It is true that the vocals are off in “I Feel Fine” and “Help!”, and there are parts where the bass and keyboards cannot be heard, and the performance is rough and cannot be used as it is, and it is clear that overdubbing in the studio was necessary, but this is the actual genuine live sound source, and this time it has been newly edited with AI stereo demix to make it a clearer and easier to listen to upgraded sound source. CD2 contains the Sam Houston performance on August 19th and the Hollywood Bowl performance on August 30th, which have been standard as soundboard live for many years. Although soundboard recordings of two performances are known for each show, the performances with problems in sound quality and sound source were removed and the Sam Houston performance was recorded at night, and the Hollywood Bowl performance on the second day, the 30th, was selected for recording. Both performances have higher quality sound sources and the performance itself is also recorded with upgraded sound sources by AI stereo demix. It is a collection of the best live sound sources representing 1965. DVD 1 is the video version of the Ed Sullivan Show and Share Stadium, but the Ed Sullivan Show includes high-quality HD upgraded video of the black and white & mono sound version as the original broadcast, as well as newly introduced video of colorization & stereo demix. In addition, Share Stadium includes two versions: the “American ABC-TV version” which was later broadcast on TV for the first time in the United States, and the “Original Complete Reproduction” which reproduced all songs completely with the original live sound source before editing. The TV broadcast version at the time, which includes the opening comment and the commercial video at the end, has been circulating for many years with poor color balance, but this time it is recorded in the latest remastered video version that has been restored and edited. The difference is clear when comparing it with the previous version. Furthermore, the complete reproduction version of all songs from the original live sound source is a must-see video that can be said to be the definitive version edited with the best quality from many video sources compared to the previous versions, which had variations in image quality and video. And DVD 2 includes “Live Film Archive”, a chronological compilation of recorded footage and news footage left in various places from the 1965 US tour. From the arrival at New York JFK Airport on August 13, 1965 before the start of the US tour to the performance at the San Francisco Cow Palace on August 31, the final destination of the tour, the precious live footage that exists has been carefully selected and recorded in chronological order, from live films newly excavated in recent years to news footage. There have been many such live videos in the past, but 8mm films without sound, those with poor image quality, and those that are too fragmentary have been omitted, and those with the image and sound synchronized or with improved image quality have been re-edited and recorded from valuable newly excavated in recent years. Although there is a possibility of new excavations in the future, it is a collection of the best videos at the moment, and is attracting attention. Following “The First America,” which captured their first US landing, and “The Beatles USA 1964 Tour Anthology,” which summarized their first large-scale US tour, this is a special edition with the latest edits for 2024, including the first appearance of new sound sources and newly discovered footage.
