Recording techniques like overdubbing were still in their infancy, and monaural was the mainstream format for records and radio. It is a well-known anecdote that the session masters for singles like “Love Me Do” and “She Loves You” were destroyed, making it impossible to create stereo mixes later on. However, thanks to advances in AI technology, it is now possible to create authentic stereo mixes by digitally analyzing not only mono recordings but also overdubbed tracks, separating them into multitracks, and remixing them. In recent years, “demixes”—such as those featured in Peter Jackson’s film “Get Back” and the reissues of the Red and Blue Albums—have garnered attention thanks to these technologies, leading to a steady stream of audio restorations that were previously impossible. This Answered “Demix Masters” collection features a carefully curated selection ranging from numerous audio references—from international project teams to collectors—to newly produced tracks making their debut. With state-of-the-art demixing, the process goes beyond simply converting mono recordings to stereo; it involves separating vocal harmonies into three distinct layers for John, Paul, and George, dividing guitar tracks into lead and rhythm parts, and isolating overdubbed choruses and instruments from the multitrack recordings to reconstruct the stereo mix.
