versions of the much-talked-about “Love of the Loved,” “Misery,” and “What Goes On” As the anthology’s tagline, “You ain’t heard everything yet!” suggests, you’ll be surprised to find out there are still Beatles recordings to come. This release features never-before-seen recordings, demos, alternate mixes, and other all-new material. The highlights are three highly anticipated tracks from 1963: “Love of the Loved,” “Misery,” and “What Goes On.” Each is a never-before-heard recording. While

the existence of “Love of the Loved” has long been known, thanks to photos of the acetate label, it can now be heard for the first time. There are various theories about the year it was recorded. The Beatles owned the recording of a performance of this song by a band at their Decca audition on New Year’s Day, 1962, raising the question of why they would have gone to the trouble of cutting acetates for a demo. The song itself seemed less complete than it was at Decca, leading some to speculate that it was recorded in 1961. However,

Dick James’ acetate label remains, making it likely that it was recorded under Brian Epstein’s production. This raises the possibility that it was recorded in early 1963, during a period when they were simply recording demos of original songs onto acetates

. Therefore, this album is dated 1963. “Misery” is a demo recorded at the Cavern Club. John sings over a rhythm track, with the other band members occasionally adding chorus. The vocals on the “I’m Not Here” demo are by John, not Ringo. John’s rendition of “Lost Love” is a surprise, but the song structure is also different. The only difference is the title phrase, and the rest of the melody is completely different from the released version, making it sound like a completely different song.

“Where on earth are we going?”
“Top, even higher!”

Before they were famous, The Beatles would always encourage themselves with the phrase “Toppermost of the Poppermost,” a play on the radio show “Top of the Pops.” This album features rare studio tracks spanning the Beatles’ career from that era through 1969, including never-before-seen recordings. “Love of the Loved” and “Misery” are presented in noiseless, clean versions, with bonus acetate versions included. All other tracks are new recordings. This beautifully pressed, permanently preserved edition features a beautiful picture disc.
