the 1960s, The Beatles records were produced around the world and released in a variety of formats, from unique mastering and cutting to jacket designs that differed from the original UK pressings. Even after that, in the analog era before digital CDs, numerous variations existed on reissues around the world. Now, as collectors worldwide increasingly share and verify these records, these album versions have become the ultimate coveted items for enthusiasts. This “Premium Vinyl Collection” is a culmination of the finest recordings, featuring the ultimate in stereo and mono quality, directly transferred from the original vinyl records. This premium collection includes a CD featuring the ultimate analog sound source and an audio DVD featuring four audio sources, including high-quality high-resolution audio.

This collection, “A Collection of Beatles’ Oldies…But Goldies!”, is The Beatles’ first official greatest hits album, released in the UK on December 10, 1966. Since their debut, the band had been producing two albums per year in the UK. However, with no new release following their August 1966 album, “Revolver,” they planned a “best of” album as an alternative, releasing it in December to meet demand for the Christmas period. It was released in the UK, Europe, and around the world, including Japan, but for some reason, it was not released by Capitol Records, which continued to release albums with its own compilations. Like previous albums, it was released in both stereo and mono in the UK. However, this compilation, which includes many non-album singles, was mixed between October 31 and November 10, 1966, due to the lack of stereo mixes available for the singles and EPs released at the time. “She Loves You,” whose master had been destroyed, could only be converted from mono to pseudo-stereo, but stereo versions of “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “From Me to You,” “I Feel Fine,” “Day Tripper,” “We Can Work It Out,” and “Paperback Writer” were produced, and naturally, these were stereo mixes that were different from the US Capitol stereo versions, making their first appearance. A stereo mix of “This Boy” was also produced during this mixing session, but there is an anecdote that this was mistaken for “Bad Boy” due to an EMI engineer’s mistake. “Bad Boy” had already been released on the US Capitol album “The Beatles VI,” but it was the only track to debut on the album in the UK, and the Japanese release’s label boasted the tagline “Includes the unreleased song ‘Bad Boy.'” The album cover, by artist David Christian, captures the fashionable atmosphere of London’s Carnaby Street at the time. The back of the jacket was taken at the Tokyo Hilton, where Paul was staying during a Japan tour in 1966, and the photo is reversed (opposite side), but the Japanese government noticed that the character “kotobuki” (longevity) on Paul’s haori coat was reversed, and this was corrected upon release. When it was first released in the UK, it was criticized as a collection of previously released songs, but it can also be said to have marked a turning point between the early and late Beatles, and served as the basis for the later Red and Blue Album concepts. While this compilation album has never been released on CD and has disappeared from the official catalog due to the existence of the Red Album, it is The Beatles’ first original best-of album on vinyl. This reissue collection CD features both the original mono and stereo British pressings, recorded directly from vinyl. Not only can you compare the differences in the mixes, but the exceptional clarity of the vinyl recordings, combined with the original 1960s sound, offers a completely different sonic texture than the digitally remastered CDs. The DVD, a “Hi-Res & HQ Audio Selection,” features four audio sources, including high-resolution versions, in audio DVD format, allowing you to compare the differences between the originals. Audio 1 features the original mono British pressing, recorded in a high-resolution format (96 kHz/24-bit) that offers even higher specs than CD, faithfully reproducing the texture of the vinyl. Compared to the CD, the quality is even closer to the original. Audio 2 features the original stereo British pressing. Audio 3 features the original British pressing, recorded on a 1970 British 8-track stereo tape. While the audio quality is inferior to the vinyl, the texture is significantly different, and the track order has been rearranged for a unique edit. Audio 4 features the stereo version released in Germany in 1971 on the Odeon label. The German version was uniquely remastered, resulting in slightly different mixes with different stereo separations. It also includes a pseudo-stereo version of “We Can Work It Out,” a US Capitol stereo mix of “Day Tripper,” a stereo mix of “I Feel Fine” with a longer ending that differs from the UK version, and an edited version of “Ticket to Ride” with a shorter intro, likely due to an editing error. This vinyl edition of “Oldies” brings together four precious vintage recordings, all of which are now rare and highly sought-after. The coated paper jacket mimics the UK version, recreating the authentic original analog sound, making this the ultimate, complete, permanent collection.
