‘Oldies ~ A Collection Of Beatles Oldies’, released in the UK in December 1966 as the Beatles’ first greatest hits album, has never been released on CD until now and has been treated as if it never existed as an official Beatles release.
However, at the time, it was recommended as a first record purchase as a “greatest hits” album of the immensely popular Beatles, and many young people in Japan also picked up this record.

For those of us who grew up with the original Beatles, “Oldies” was a beloved album, and it was a remarkable achievement that it included many singles and EPs that were not yet released in the UK at the time, such as “From Me to You,” “I Can’t Hold Your Hand,” “I Feel Fine,” “Bad Boy,” “Day Tripper,” “Paperback Writer,” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” all in stereo mixes.
However, the real reason for its release was that they couldn’t produce the “annual year-end new album,” so they resorted to releasing a greatest hits album as a last resort.
Due to the circumstances of its hasty release, “Day Tripper” and “I Can’t Hold Your Hand” were hastily made into stereo mixes, and “She Loves You” was included in pseudo
-stereo, making it an album with many points that fans will find questionable. Here, we present the mono and stereo mixes of that forgotten official greatest hits album, “Oldies,” faithfully reproduced on CD from vintage masters.
