The Beatles’ final live performance, “The Rooftop Concert,” took place on the rooftop of Apple Inc. at 3 Saville Row in London on January 30, 1969. Parts of the concert were released as highlights in the 1970 album and the film “Let It Be,” and in recent years the full concert was released in the documentary “The Beatles: Get Back,” and later released as a theatrical film and audio distribution. This new expanded edition CD includes the standard remixed and remastered sound sources that have been released, as well as a new stereo remix from the original reel tape. The reel tape version is a longer version that includes “Get Back” (rehearsal), which was played for level adjustment and a few “I Want You” and “Don’t Let Me Down” (warm-up) between songs, which were cut from the standard version. The stereo remix, based on the original sound from multiple Nagra reel tapes used for filming, is a completely different version from the standard version. The DVD includes two different versions of the footage: a complete version based on the theatrical release of the “Rooftop Concert” film, and an alternate extended version edited from a different angle. In the film and documentary, street scenes and interviews are inserted in the middle of the performance, but here the performance is recorded in its entirety without any cuts. The two versions are edited from multiple angles, making them different versions from previous video works. In addition, bonus footage such as promo videos and trailers are also included on the DVD. The Beatles’ last performance, “Rooftop Concert”, is the definitive special edition of the latest edited 2-disc CD & DVD set.
