Thanks to your support, “THE COMPLETE ROOFTOP SOUNDBOARD” has completely sold out after being restocked several times due to overwhelming popularity. The timing coincided with the theatrical release of Gohonzon, and the response was overwhelming. As we announced a few weeks ago, there are no plans for a re-release, and this is the end! However, unexpectedly, Gohonzon encore screenings began, and the calls for a re-release of “THE COMPLETE,” which seemed to have died down due to the sold-out status, literally flared up again… in fact, they even escalated to the point of people saying, “Please just release it.” Faced with a response that far exceeded our expectations, we are responding to everyone’s requests and will be re-releasing “THE COMPLETE.”
However, simply reissuing the previous release would be boring as a Beatles item, so we decided to change the format this time. The previous release was a two-disc set, but this time it’s simply a single disc. In other words, it’s a reissue of only the complete edited parts. This makes it an extremely accessible version for beginners, and it’s convenient enough that even non-enthusiasts will want to have it. It will be the perfect guide to get a sense of what a complete Rooftop is like after watching Gohonzon.
As I mentioned at the time of the release of “THE COMPLETE ROOFTOP SOUNDBOARD,” the rooftop performance itself was a desperate measure to realize a live performance that could not be realized, while the actual multi-track recording that was recorded at the same time was not intended to make a live album, but rather as a “rooftop recording session” to produce takes to be used on a new Beatles album. Therefore, the recorder was often stopped between performances, and it was never intended from the start to capture every moment on multi-track.
Filling the gaps were mono recordings made by a film crew whose purpose was to capture footage used in the film “LET IT BE” and the Gohonzon that has been a hot topic since last year. However, not all of their recordings were made together on the rooftop, and ironically, there were several scenes on the rooftop that were captured from a distance by a team preparing to cover the event from below the building.
Therefore, it was not conceivable to use this recording as a supplement for the release of a live album, and in fact, it was inevitable that the album released this January consisted only of multi-track parts. That is why “THE COMPLETE ROOFTOP SOUNDBOARD” makes full use of various existing sound sources to literally recreate the complete rooftop.
Listening to it like this, even the scenes where Gohonzon rehearsed “Get Back” before the live performance, no matter how skillfully crafted Gohonzon’s production, are completely different from the actual performance. The film crew didn’t simply fill in the gaps in the footage, but the enhanced authenticity of the documentary is also an important part of the title. In addition to that, the recordings capturing John’s brief rendition of “I Want You” and the moment “God Save the Queen” began, heard from behind a street interview, are only available on the film crew’s recordings. Furthermore, some of these recordings are far from the sound image, which is why Gohonzon’s financial circumstances mean that these recordings cannot be used for video or audio releases. This is why the release of “THE COMPLETE…” was so significant.
The first two-disc version was a huge hit and sold out, but this time, the multi-track section from the second disc has been omitted, and Rooftop is being re-released as a simple and smart live album that recreates everything from the first to the last. The single-disc release makes it even easier to listen to than the previous release, making it a convenient complete Rooftop album that all music fans, not just enthusiasts, should have. Don’t miss out this time!
★Original release: March 2022. 350 sets were sold in a short period of time, and the album quickly sold out.
