“The Beatles / Bootleg Recordings 1963” was suddenly released without any prior notice in 2013, attracting the attention of Beatles collectors around the world. This release, available exclusively through digital distribution under the public domain, includes recordings not previously included in the 1994 “Live at the BBC” and the “Anthology” series from 1995. It includes 15 studio outtakes, 42 live recordings from BBC radio broadcasts, and two demos. While these recordings were already well-known to collectors and had not yet been rediscovered or updated, they have not yet been officially released on CD. This “The Beatles / Bootleg Recordings 1963: New Masters Edition” is a remastered version of the original, remastered from new sources, resulting in a completely different experience. While the studio outtakes feature the same track selection, they have been remixed, stereo separated, and pitch-corrected. Since 2013, the BBC recordings have been significantly upgraded in quality thanks to the discovery of new recording sources and advances in remastering technology, resulting in ongoing updates to the recordings themselves and editing. The original release was a temporary release, resulting in some rough editing and incorrect track listings, making the sound quality and other aspects of the album far from optimal. However, no corrections or changes have been made since then. This time, the audio source itself is different, with improved sound quality, longer recordings of songs, some track order changed to match the broadcast, and pitch corrections. Two new tracks have been added: “From Me to You,” originally performed live on October 20th on “Easy Beat,” and “Thank You Girl,” originally performed on May 13th on “Side by Side.” While the original release totaled 134 minutes, this New Masters Edition now boasts a revised version running a total of 141 minutes. The final two demo tracks, “Bad to Me” and “I’m in Love,” are exclusive to this album. This compilation of unreleased Beatles material complements the original albums, making it a must-have for collectors.
