Description
Broadcast: 31st December 1995
“Revival! 25th Anniversary Miracle!! The Beatles Anthology” was broadcast on a certain commercial TV station on the night of New Year’s Eve 1995. The longest version, 5 hours and 27 minutes, is recorded in a 4-disc set in a completely uncut version with high quality and commercials for the first time in history. This is a miracle release!! And it includes stereo sound!
”THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY: JAPANESE TV BROADCAST EDITION,” released as a gift DVD-R, became a huge hit as it was a rare playback of the nostalgic New Year’s Eve special that aired 30 years ago.
At the same time, it is true that the quality of the video via YouTube was generally poor, and the audio was mono. Nevertheless, it was well received, simply because it was a gift that allowed people to watch nostalgic footage.
However, the release of this gift prompted enthusiasts to come forward and say that they still own VHS tapes with better picture quality.
If you were a fan of the nostalgic “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY” New Year’s Eve special program, you probably recorded the long broadcast, which lasted over five hours, in triple-speed mode on VHS. The VHS master provided this time was also recorded at triple speed, but the picture quality is clearer than that of “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY: JAPANESE TV BROADCAST EDITION”. There is a world of difference.
That alone is enough to be a DVD-R release from Uxbridge, but the best part is that the audio is recorded in solid stereo. The previous gift version had already rough image quality, but it was compressed to enable long-term uploads to YouTube, which made it even rougher, and the 1995 broadcast was also dropped to mono, which was unacceptable.
This time, in order to take advantage of the clear and sharp image quality, the album has been released in a four-disc set without compression, which is a huge amount. What’s more, it’s recorded in stereo, which is even more impressive.
What’s more, the version provided this time was also surprising as it included all the commercials from the day, which shows that the previous YouTube version included some of those commercials at the end.
The commercials I see there are also nostalgic. Thirty years have passed since then, and the opening credits include an image of an actress who died suddenly at the end of last year, making me realize that things that were common in 1995 are no longer so common today.
And the biggest attraction of the New Year’s Eve broadcast version is the original subtitles for each Beatles song and interview. In the first place, the later official version does not have any subtitles for lyrics, so the difference is too big.
Moreover, it is clearly shown in the lyrics of “Some Other Guy” that appears in the video of the Cavern Club. On the other hand, when it comes to the “WHITE ALBUM” recording medley, it seems like it was too much trouble to add subtitles (laughs), which is amusing.
Another attraction of this broadcast is that John’s remarks are accompanied by tasteful translations. For example, the subtitles for the episodes from the recording of “Revolution” or John’s regrets about Allan Klein are more interesting than the official ones.
This is a literally upgraded video that delivers the New Year’s Eve version of “THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY”, which felt so nostalgic even in the previous gift, with dramatically improved image quality. The entire legendary broadcast, which lasted over five hours and spanned four DVDs including commercials, is recorded!
