Description
The 1979 Beach Boys tour saw the California band perform for the last time with their classic lineup of the three Wilson brothers—Brian (piano and vocals), Carl (guitar and vocals), and Dennis (drums and vocals)—along with Mike Love (vocals), Al Jardine (guitar and vocals), and Bruce Johnston (keyboards and vocals), and with the accompaniment of Ed Carter (bass), Bobby Figueroa (drums), Mike Meros (keyboards), and Carli Munoz (keyboards). The most famous and bootlegged date is the one on May 14th at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale (New York), at the time broadcast on the radio by the KBFH FM station and now partially reproduced in this unofficial CD on the Homespun label: an atmosphere of celebration and festivity, necessarily seasoned with a touch of nostalgia, characterizes a performance focused on the great classics sung loudly also by the audience but which also includes the traditional “Shortenin’ Bread” included in the recent LP “LA (Light Album)”, “Roller Skating Child” from “The Beach Boys Love You” of 1977 and the covers of “Peggy Sue” (Buddy Holly) and “You Are So Beautiful” (Billy Preston), the latter with Dennis in the role of lead singer.
