. The Ivies made their debut in 1968 with Mary Hopkin and James Taylor on the Apple label established by The Beatles. At the time, “Maybe Tomorrow” was released as a single in Japan, but it did not become a hit in the UK or the US, and they later re-debuted as “Badfinger” with “Come and Get It” written by Paul McCartney, which became a smash hit. They participated in George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” and the Concert for Bangladesh, and George produced the 1971 album “Straight Up”, which led to recognition as the younger band of the Beatles. They produced single hits such as “Stormy Love” and “Day After Day”, and composed the rare masterpiece “Without You”, which was also covered by Nilsson and Mariah Carey and reached number one in the US. With the demise of the Apple label, leader Pete Ham committed suicide due to contract issues, and a few years later, original member Tom Evans also committed suicide, so they were talked about as a “tragic band”, and although the remaining members continued their activities after that, they never achieved success that exceeded the peak of their Apple days. This video anthology traces Badfinger’s career from their debut, when they were most active, including live performances and TV and radio appearances, to the 1970s Apple era, making it the definitive video collection that has never been seen before. The first DVD is titled “The Best of the Apple Years” and contains a selection of upgraded and newly discovered high-quality footage from the promotional footage of their debut with Apple in 1968, to footage of their appearances on Top of the Pops and Beat Club. Footage that was previously only available on low-quality video is included in the latest edited version with eye-opening high quality. “Set of Six,” a familiar must-see studio live video, is recorded in a stereo remastered widescreen edit, and the upgrade quality is particularly noteworthy. All other footage is carefully selected from the best high-quality and high-quality video materials available at the moment, making this a literal best collection. The second DVD is a collection of rare videos called “Video Treasures” that includes rare versions and edited versions that do not overlap with the best collection. It is a rare video collection for enthusiasts, including rare promos from the Ivies, unaired outtakes from the Beat Club, and edited versions with replaced sounds and images. Bonus footage includes a rare documentary filmed in Japan in 1973 and promotional footage from the Apple label. With the death of Joey Molland in March 2025, all members of Badfinger at the height of their power passed away. This is the definitive video collection from the GOLDIES label, a 2-disc memorial special edition.
