The true identity of this work is Alice Cooper’s first documentary work “PRIME CUTS: THE ALICE COOPER STORY” released in October 1991. It is a DVD version of the Japanese laser disc version.
[Reprinted on DVD from laser disc with Japanese subtitles]
In modern times, the movie “SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER” is also known as a documentary about Alice, but this work is completely different. This is a home video released with the release of the masterpiece “HEY STOOPID” from the metal era. At that time, video works following live/PV collections were being sought, and various bands/artists started historical works looking back on their history. This work is the Alice edition. It contains plenty of early treasured footage that was not available at the time, and features key figures such as Alice herself, Shep Gordon, and Bob Ezrin. It is a masterpiece that sheds light on the history of Alice, which was not well known in Japan.

”PRIME CUTS” was officially released on DVD in 2001, but unfortunately it was only available in Europe, the US and Australia, and not in Japan. The imported version did not have subtitles, making it difficult to understand the many comments that are the lifeblood of a documentary. So here we have this film. It is a Japanese laser disc released in 1991, so it comes with Japanese subtitles and is of the highest quality. This film allows you to intuitively understand the many valuable comments from that time.
[A masterpiece documentary completely different from the movie “SUPER DUPER”]
Even though it has subtitles, there is now a movie called “SUPER DUPER” that was made with a generous budget and video technology. You might think that “PRIME CUTS” is no longer needed now, but that’s not the case. In fact, “SUPER DUPER” focuses on his early childhood and band years, and after he went solo, it’s all about his private life, such as marriage and alcoholism. Moreover, the movie itself ends when he teams up with Kane Roberts in 1986. In contrast, this film skips his early childhood and debut years, starting with his breakthrough with “LOVE IT TO DEATH” and covering everything from 1991’s “HEY STOOPID”. It is truly specialized in the “delicious era”.

And I appreciate that the story is centered on music. I’m glad that there are many episodes from Alice’s childhood and with his wife, like in “SUPER DUPER,” because it gives a sense of “Alice the human being,” but the focus of this work is “Alice the musician” and “Alice the performer.” By revealing the aims and environments of each era, you can delve even deeper into the albums and enjoy them even more.
[Nowadays, you can see a lot of precious metal era]
In fact, not only “WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE” and “FROM THE INSIDE” but also the adventurous work “FLUSH THE FASHION” will appear in the early solo period, and there is plenty of metal era that was completely ignored in “SUPER DUPER”. Muscle guitarist Kane Roberts and Kip Winger, whose WINGER was very successful at the time, are also featured extensively, and interesting episodes are proudly shown. Of course, the big comeback work “TRASH” and the latest work at the time “HEY STOOPID” will also appear.

Another special guest is Slash. Not only does he enthusiastically talk about his love for Alice with “WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE” in hand, but he also appears in the recording of “Hey Stoopid”. And the most important one is Ozzy Osbourne. In fact, Ozzy’s history video “DON’T BLAME ME” was also produced and released at almost the same time as this film, and Alice appears in it with comments. In other words, Ozzy’s “DON’T BLAME ME” and this film are sister works in which the British and American Princes of Darkness make friendly appearances with each other.
This is the best version of the official documentary, complete with Japanese subtitles, and includes plenty of footage from the golden 70s and the delicious metal era. The trajectory of the era when the emperor Alice Cooper was at his most brilliant. Please take this opportunity to enjoy it thoroughly.
