An unofficial double CD on 1960s Records/Rhythm & Blues collects 46 songs recorded by the BBC over the three-year period from 1966 to 1968, spanning 16 different sessions. It features over two and a half hours of music and interviews, documenting all the performances given for the Beeb by the Alan Price Set, plus five tracks recorded by the bandleader and former Animals keyboardist after his solo career. The repertoire performed by Price and his band, which included Clive Burrows on baritone saxophone, Steve Gregory on tenor saxophone, John Walters on trumpet, Peter Kirtley on guitar, Rod “Boots” Slade on bass and “Little” Roy Mills on drums, includes all his major chart hits such as “The House That Jack Built” (written by himself), “I Put A Spell On You” (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins), “Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo” (from the 1953 film “Lili”) and “Simon Smith And His Amazing Dancing Bear” (Randy Newman), R&B, soul, pop and jazz classics by Sam Cooke, Percy Sledge, Robert Parker, Betty Everett, Four Tops, Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd, Box Tops and Louis Armstrong and the Animals’ smash hit “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” (written by Nina Simone).
