In an effort to re-examine the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” established by governments around the world in 1948, embarked on the Human Rights Now! Tour, an event organized by Anesty, which took place from September 2nd to October 15th, with 20 performances in 15 countries. The Japanese performance was a one-night-only show at the Tokyo Dome on September 27th, 1988, and this recording captures Bruce Springsteen’s stage performance in superb sound quality, directly recorded from the original master tapes that have never been seen circulating among traders or anywhere else before, and is now available for the first time on a 2CD pressing. The show

begins with Peter Gabriel, who was also performing that day, introducing Bruce in Japanese, followed by a performance of “Born In The USA”! From the opening, you can feel the explosive brilliance of the powerful performance and vocals that seem to burst with energy. The great setlist includes everything you want to hear, from songs mainly from the album Born In The USA to Promised Land, The River, Thunder Road, and more. Before the finale, they played Bob Dylan’s “Chimes of Freedom,” also famously covered by The Byrds. The last number was Bob Marley’s classic “Get Up, Stand Up,” sung by all the participants in a powerful chorus that is unique to Human Rights Now! At the beginning of “My HomeTown,” Bruce speaks in Japanese for about a minute and a half about the wonders of “freedom,” which reaffirms just how important “freedom” is. This is a very valuable album that shows how seriously Bruce takes Human Rights Now and is an important page in the history of rock music.
