Description
Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY, USA 8th November 2015
An extraordinary situation is unfolding! A massive amount of top-quality, official-grade soundboard recordings have suddenly been unearthed from Port Chester! The Norah Jones compilation is being released urgently!!
This recent surge in unearthed recordings is truly extraordinary and shocking. We don’t know the reason or circumstances, but without any warning, various previously unreleased soundboard recordings have suddenly started appearing one after another. The bands/artists are not consistent at all, but there is a clear commonality: the “releaser/venue/time period.” They are all being released online by the same person, the live venue is the famous Port Chester venue, the Capital Theatre, and the time period is almost entirely concentrated in the 2010s. We cannot say for certain, but judging from this circumstantial evidence, these may have been recordings made by staff who worked at the Capital Theatre in the 2010s.
[A superb soundboard recording that will send shivers down your spine with Norah’s whispers]
This week sees the release of the first installment of this newly unearthed series. This release is the Norah Jones edition, featuring a previously unreleased soundboard recording of her November 8, 2015 Port Chester performance. At the time, Norah was in the transitional period between ‘LITTLE BROKEN HEARTS’ and ‘DAY BREAKS’, but in 2015 she also held a mini-tour of 10 performances. This Port Chester performance was the final show of that tour.
This recording, captured at such a show, is practically official-quality. However, while the quality is official, its character is slightly different. The raw, unprocessed feel, characteristic of a direct connection to the mixing console, is raw and everything is laid bare. The atmosphere of the live venue and the cheers recede into the distance, and instead, the touch of the piano, the vibration of the guitar strings, the contours of the bass, and Norah’s vocals come at you with a sense of closeness as if they were playing right next to you. The vocals, in particular, are pure bliss. The feeling of that soft, breathy voice brushing past your ears is so sweet it’s almost ticklish. It’s a beauty that is not polished like an official release, but rather a raw, unpolished gem. You can feel the delicate nuances inherent in Norah’s voice in detail, and the dynamics of how it starts like a whisper and gradually expands into a powerful singing voice are recreated in your mind. It is precisely because it is a direct connection to the soundboard that its rawness stands out.
[A treasure chest of masterpieces that perfectly summarizes his career]
This luxurious full show, which could be called a career overview, offers a blissful and exhilarating sound experience, covering everything from his debut album ‘COME AWAY WITH ME’ to songs from the 2010s. Let’s take a look at the setlist here.
