★This is amazing!! The inherent roughness of the video has been brilliantly eliminated with modern technology.
”ONE HAND CLAPPING,” a rare Wings video from the VHS era, was finally released and broadcast in 2024, but it has yet to be released on home video. Taking advantage of this situation, the hugely popular “ONE HAND CLAPPING DEFINITIVE EDITION” was released.
Regarding this footage, the poor image quality, which resulted from converting it from video to film (“kineko”), has been a major obstacle to its public release. Yet, for some reason, it was released in theaters in 2024, while strangely, it has not been released on home video.
That’s precisely why “ONE HAND CLAPPING DEFINITIVE EDITION” is so popular, but it’s also true that its picture quality still confuses those who aren’t die-hard fans. Fans are accustomed to the picture quality of “ONE HAND CLAPPING,” but for others, it’s undeniable that the picture quality seems rather rough.
So, this time, the version broadcast in Japan was used as a base and AI was used to remaster the picture quality. Indeed, the roughness unique to this video has been eliminated, and it has been reborn with picture quality that looks good on today’s large-screen TVs.
Therefore, I would recommend the ‘DEFINITIVE EDITION’ to die-hard fans, but for those of us who are used to the picture quality and 4K remasters of recent releases, such as ‘BEATLES: GET BACK’ from a few years ago, this one should feel easier to watch.
You might find yourself thinking, after seeing this version, “They could have at least given it this much of a makeover when it was released in theaters…” because the roughness inherent in the original video has been so brilliantly resolved with modern technology.
Furthermore, this release addresses instances where spoken word intruded on the music in several tracks. While this was unavoidable given the original documentary-style production, in some places the commentary overshadowed the performance and Paul’s singing.
First, in “Bluebird,” Paul’s commentary comes in after the instrumental break, but by overlaying it with the audio released at the same time as the video, the performance is no longer interrupted. Similarly, in the ending of “Baby Face,” where Paul’s commentary overlaps the moment he starts singing, it can now be listened to without interruption.
However, as it is, since this is the Japanese broadcast version, the subtitles will still be displayed even if the comments are removed. Therefore, we thoroughly edited the footage, replacing the scenes with comments with versions that do not include subtitles. The results of this work are particularly remarkable for “Bluebird,” and it has been transformed so smoothly that you might mistake it for a version that was originally created without comments or subtitles.
In this release, the image quality issues that plagued both “ONE HAND CLAPPING” and the bonus track “BACKYARD” have been neatly resolved using AI, and the resulting versions are reborn to be easier to watch and listen to, without being interrupted by comments.
And this time, it even includes the introductory scenes by the current Paul at the beginning of both “ONE HAND CLAPPING” and “BACKYARD,” making it an even more enjoyable experience!
