Taken from The LP “BURNING AT THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM 1972″(TMQ 71507 / Matrix Number RS 522 A/B)

”BURNING AT THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM 1972,” a highly acclaimed reissue of a classic TMOQ analog LP, is a definitive edition that showcases the brilliance of Graf Zeppelin’s work, as they have cleanly and naturally remastered this masterpiece, capturing a small gig from 1972 that can only be heard on this album, even after more than 50 years.

After all, it was released in 1972. Even the original TMOQ is difficult to reproduce cleanly, so it’s not just about creating a natural-sounding CD version, but about creating a CD version that is completely free of scratch noise. As evidence of this, previous CD versions of this album showed signs of considerable effort to combat scratch noise, but that’s where the superb CD reissue of “GRAF ZEPPELIN” comes in.

The 2023 CD version, released without a doubt, sold out long ago. This is all the more true when you can easily enjoy this extremely rare TMOQ masterpiece, both in terms of its material and content, without the annoyance of scratch noise.

The long-sold-out masterpiece “BURNING AT THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM 1972” is finally being re-released this week. However, because it was already perfectly finished when it was released in 2023, there was nothing for producer Graf Zeppelin to add, so the content will be exactly the same as the previous release. If it’s already that easy to listen to, then there’s certainly no need to refine it further.

This remarkably clean CD reissue conveys the vibrant energy unique to small gigs during the peak 1972 tour, also known as the “Stones Touring Party.” While the sound quality is indeed mono and not as outstanding as other classic albums released by TMOQ during that era, it undeniably ranks among the best audience recordings of the entire 1972 tour. Its unique recording style—without picking up surrounding noise despite being a small gig, yet with a close-up sound image—is also a major draw.

What’s most impressive is how it captures the exhilarating energy of the Stones’ performance. This is the secret to the immense popularity of this recording, which is by no means a polished or exemplary recording. After this, the Stones began actively playing small gigs in America from 1978 onwards, but they had already undertaken small gigs during their 1972 tour, and the fact that these performances were recorded on this TMOQ album makes it incredibly valuable.

This small gig at the Hollywood Palladium, held just six days into the tour, stood out for its exceptional performance compared to the shows before and after it. Even though arenas were already commonplace for the Stones, it was clear they were genuinely enjoying this gig. The result was a high-energy opening number, “Brown Sugar,” and superb performances of “Gimme Shelter” and “Midnight Rambler” from that night.

Thus, the definitive 1972 Hollywood Palladium performance, a timeless classic from TMOQ, has been re-released in a clean CD format. It even includes the news report of Mick’s arrest in Boston right at the beginning. This masterpiece of the 1972 tour, a vintage LP that’s not only hard to find but also difficult to hear in clear sound, has been brilliantly compiled by “GRAF ZEPPELIN.” This time, the jacket font even resembles the TMOQ stamp cover!

REMASTERED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN
★Directly digitized and mastered from the vintage original TMOQ master LP (matrix number RS 522 A/B)!
★The VGP version had high-frequency noise components drastically cut, the mid-range boosted, and the bass was quite rumbling,
resulting in a somewhat artificial texture lacking depth. However, this version has been mastered to give a sufficient analog feel,
preserving the high frequencies while pinpointing the removal of scratch noise.

★Since the overall sound is not muffled to mask the noise, the scratch noise has been removed while maintaining almost the texture of the analog record. The original sound was not particularly good in terms of separation, but fortunately, the performance sounds close when listened to like this. As a 1972 Aud Mono recording, it is a perfectly “listenable” mono Aud recording, and you can listen to it in no time.
