Description
wildly popular KISS treasure video series “KISSTORY” finally enters the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” era, heralding a new chapter for KISS!
This series is the hidden history of KISS. It’s a compilation of rare footage, including unknown TV appearances, forgotten commercials, rare interviews, and film footage, all compiled by the best masters. Up until now, nine titles have been archived, spanning the band’s golden age in the ’70s to the “The Elder” era, and this trilogy marks the final phase of the makeup era. Let’s start with the usual series list.
VOLUME 1-5: 1974-1979 (Golden Age)
VOLUME 6-8: 1980 (UNMASKED Era)
VOLUME 9: 1981/1982 (THE ELDER Era)
*VOLUME 10: 1982 (CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Era Part 1) ←★This work★
{December 1982: Vinnie Vincent officially joined}
*VOLUME 11: 1983 (CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Era Part 2)
*VOLUME 12: 1983 (CREATURES OF THE NIGHT Era Part 3)
As you can see, the “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” era is a massive three-volume effort, including this one. The biggest highlights of this era were Ace Frehley’s departure and the addition of Vinnie Vincent. Ace did not participate in the recording of “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” and was already effectively gone by the time of the album’s release. However, Vinnie’s official joining wasn’t announced until December 1982. This album covers the transitional period from October to December 1982, when Ace was still considered an official member. What was going on under the makeup? This album’s footage offers a rare glimpse into the backstage moments before the storm. Let’s take a look at each piece individually.
●DISC 1: Chapter 1-2 “I Love It Loud Featuring Ace (2 Versions)”
The first section of this album features a clip from the lead single “I Love It Loud,” featuring Ace shortly before his departure. In addition to the music video itself, it also includes a TV commercial for “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT” that uses the same footage. Both are premium quality versions from the master source.
■DISC 1: Chapter 3 “MTV Press Conference”
The core of DISC 1 is this approximately 70-minute masterpiece. It is a completely unedited master of the press conference held in Los Angeles on October 28, 1982, three days after the release of “CREATURES OF THE NIGHT.” The time counter has been recorded directly from the original reel shot by MTV, and the visual beauty is completely official (although there are some alarm-like noises in some parts, they are recorded as the original reel).
The footage includes backstage scenes with a real event feel, a press conference with all the band members including Ace, and makeup and interviews in the waiting room. A must-see is the unveiling of the new stage set, which includes the first public showing of the new stage, including special effects, along with new costumes, a tank-style drum kit, and Gene’s fire-breathing technique. This is a fascinating masterpiece, offering a behind-the-scenes feel that’s unique to press conferences, unlike regular live shows or variety appearances.

■DISC 2: Replacing Chapter 1, “Swedish TV Interview,”
DISC 2 features footage from the band’s European promotional tour. This collection includes high-quality master footage documenting the band’s promotional journey while Ace was still in the band.
First up is an interview with Gene Simmons recorded by Casablanca Records in Sweden on November 22, 1982. This is an unedited reel master with time code, allowing you to watch the material as it was before it was completed.
●DISC 2: Chapter 2-4 “TV Performances from the Final Days of Ace’s Era (4 Types)”
The final section is a series of TV performances that, while mimed, show Ace’s final, heroic performances. First up is “Aplauso,” a show on Spain’s Plato 2 that aired on November 28, 1982. This is a master reel version with time code.
Next up is the Italian RAI TV music program “Discoring,” broadcast in November 1982. “Creatures Of The Night,” which is rarely performed on TV, is recorded from the master reel.
The third is “I Love It Loud,” performed on the Dutch radio show “Top Pop” on November 26, 1982. It’s worth noting that the audience was made up of members of the KISS Explorer Army (later known as KISS Army International). This recording is from an unedited TV reel.
The finale of this release is “I Love It Loud” performed at West Germany’s Vorsicht Musik on December 13, 1982. This is the master footage, complete with timecode. What’s fascinating is the stunned audience’s reaction to seeing KISS in full make-up and costume, clearly conveyed even from the other side of the camera.
