Madonna’s first concert tour, “The Virgin Tour,” took place at the height of her popularity following the phenomenal worldwide sales of her album “Like a Virgin.” While a world tour was initially planned, it was realized as a North American tour limited to the US and Canada from April to May 1985. Featuring the Beastie Boys as the opening act, this sensational live debut ignited a nationwide frenzy with nearly every show sold out. A video of the Detroit performance from this tour was later released, but it was an edited version that omitted three songs rather than the entire concert. The setlist, which truly embodies Madonna’s early years, included hit singles from both albums as well as the soundtrack tracks “Crazy for You” and “Gambler” from the film “Vision Quest.” While the setlist for each performance was essentially the same, the live performances featured entirely live vocals and performances, with variations in solo parts and stage progressions, making for a truly live performance experience. While most previously available recordings were incomplete or degraded mono sources, this live archive features the best-quality audio, newly restored and edited from the raw masters, and is the first-ever original remaster. In addition, bonus tracks from sound checks and tour rehearsals are included after each complete performance, providing valuable insight into the band’s dedication to live performance. This is a rare archive recording of Madonna’s memorable concert debut, marking her first arena tour, after previously only performing live in clubs and on TV. Compared to the highly polished shows she’s shown since her 1987 World Tour, this newly edited live compilation captures the unique charm of the 1980s “The Virgin Tour,” showcasing her freshness, coquettishness, and dedication.

The second “The Virgin Tour” live anthology, “Second Virgin,” features two complete stereo soundboard recordings: the May 10, 1985 Orlando, Florida show, and the May 29, 1985 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania show. The Orlando show features recordings from a newly leaked, complete stereo soundboard master. The Philadelphia show was recorded later than the Detroit show, and the stage progression and performance are tighter than those from the earlier part of the tour. Compared to previously released recordings, the newly remastered and upgraded sound source delivers a complete, flawless recording. Bonus tracks include two versions of “Like a Virgin” sung with rough vocals during soundcheck.
