Description
The hugely popular KISS treasure video series “KISSTORY” will have two sequels to the “UNMASKED” era simultaneously released!
This series is what you might call the hidden history of KISS. It’s a compilation of rare footage, including unknown TV appearances, forgotten commercials, rare interviews, and film footage, all compiled by the best masters. The first release from the “UNMASKED” era, “VOLUME SIX 1980 PART 1 (Shades 2558),” was recently released to great acclaim, and this week’s two-part series covers parts 2 and 3. Let’s start with a look at the collection so far.
・VOLUME 1: 1974-1976 (until the Destroyer era)
・VOLUME 2: 1976 (until the Rock and Roll Over era)
・VOLUME 3: 1977/1978 (until the solo era)
・VOLUME 4: 1979 (Dynasty era part 1)
・VOLUME 5: 1979 (Dynasty era part 2)
・VOLUME 6: 1980 (Unmasked era part 1)
・VOLUME 7: 1980 (Unmasked era part 2)
*VOLUME 8: 1980 (Unmasked era part 3) ←★This album★
…And that’s how it goes. KISS’s career has been heavily weighted towards North America, but the “UNMASKED Tour” is a unique event that sets them apart from all other eras. The tour was also limited to Europe/Oceania, completely ignoring North America. While the recent “VOLUME SIX 1980 PART 1” was themed around “album release/European tour,” this week’s two-part series is structured as “Part 2: Just before leaving for Australia” and “Part 3: The main part of the Oceania tour (this work).” Let’s take a look at the contents right away.
●DISC 1: Chapter 1-7 “KISS Attacks! + Hilarious Press Conferences (7 Types)”
KISS arrives! The episode begins with an airport report. Footage then appears from the balcony of the historic Sydney Town Hall. Welcomed by thousands of enthusiastic fans, KISS looked like the Pope. This release features the complete version of the moment when KISSTERIA (KISS craze) reached its peak.
The DVD also features a special feature on the press conference welcoming the four members. It also includes a hilarious interview with comedian Norman Gunston, who had a hit with “Marching In The KISS Army (a parody of I Was Made For Loving You),” a report by model Sandy Major, and a complete version where you can witness the entire press conference.
Fans have reported that they were followed all over Australia. The girl screaming all day in the hotel room is none other than KISSTERIA.
●DISC 1: Chapters 8-9 “Perth Performance Report (2 versions)”
The tour has finally begun! First up are two live reports from Perth, the first performance location. This is a wonderful report that combines the best concert footage with a real sense of the energy on site.
●DISC 1: Chapter 10-23 “Melbourne Concert Report (14 Videos)”
Next up is 14 videos related to the “November 15th Melbourne Concert,” the core of this work. From the scene of arrival at Melbourne Airport, the excitement is conveyed with an analogy to the Beatles, fans flock to the hotel where the band is staying, a makeup-free Jean wanders around with her face hidden, and a camera team follows Paul Stanley’s car. At the press conference, a Playboy model French kisses Jean!?
A must-see is the iconic “The Don Lane Show.” Ace and Gene visit host Don Lane on this popular Australian talk show to celebrate his birthday, bearing a gift. In fact, Don was Ace’s high school classmate (!?). There’s even a rare moment during the show when they realize this. In addition to scenes from the show, this release also includes unedited backstage footage and concert footage from the Melbourne concert, taken from the master tapes.
From Chapter 17, there is a TV rush reporting on the live show itself. You can see plenty of footage of the venue, news programs about rampages and brawls, and even live pro shots of the actual stage.
●DISC 1: Chapters 24-28 “Adelaide Performance Report (5 types)” –
From the “November 18th Adelaide Performance,” which marked the halfway point of their first Oceania tour. The venue was a cricket stadium with a large open ceiling, but unfortunately the weather was stormy on the day. The storm was reported in the news, and on stage, their capes and long hair fluttered violently in the strong winds, making them look like TMRev●luti●n. This unusual appearance is also reported in professional shots.
DISC 1: Chapters 29-32 “Brisbane to New Zealand (4 versions)”
We’ll leave the fourth performance location, Sydney, for DISC 2 and move on to the fifth performance, Brisbane, and then New Zealand. The disc includes TV reports from Brisbane and Wellington, and the former includes the opening song “Detroit Rock City” in full.
There’s also a video for the Australian-only single “What Makes The World Go Round,” and finally, comedian Norman Gunston returns for an interview about his experiences with KISS
.
■DISC 2: Chapters 1-13 “The Inner Sanctum””
DISC 2 replaces “The Inner Sanctum,” the famous documentary program that first featured Oceania. We’ve introduced it as a bonus title, but this is a different “Channel 10 Australia” version. Recorded from the best existing VHS master.
This program is a legendary program utilizing professional shots from the “November 22, 1980 Sydney Performance (Day 2).” While the Sydney performance is well-known for its standard live pro shots, such as the official “KISSOLOGY VOLUME TWO” box set and the simultaneously released “SYDNEY 1980 U-MATIC MASTER (Shades 2566)” this week, “The Inner Sanctum” is different. Featuring multi-camera pro shots from the live show, it also features plenty of interviews with band members, associates, and audience members. Rather than a musical work, this is a documentary that vividly depicts KISS’s visit to Australia, which was a national event. While DISC 1 vividly depicts the tour with several minutes of footage, this is a TV special that can be enjoyed as a well-crafted video work with a beginning, development, and conclusion.
■DISC 2: Chapters 14-17 “The Inner Sanctum” Related Footage (4 Types)”
After enjoying the full legendary program, you’ll also find bonus footage of related pro shots. One is a different broadcast version of the same “The Inner Sanctum,” which includes only the ending scene, which is different from the main program. Finally, there are three TV commercials from the legendary documentary program.
This collection of 37 treasured videos spans two hours and 33 minutes. This is the final installment of a trilogy that brings together incredibly rare footage from the “UNMASKED” era, a unique moment in KISS history. Featuring the most up-to-date masters provided by researchers, this is the ultimate collection possible in 2026. Not only is this work itself a treasure trove of rare footage, but combining parts 1, 2, and 3 offers a truly epic series that offers a rare, 7-hour, 13-minute experience of UNMASKED immersion. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The eighth installment in the “KISSTORY” video collection series. This two-disc set compiles approximately 2 hours and 33 minutes of rare footage from the “UNMASKED” era, a hidden gem in KISS history. All of the footage is provided by top-notch, updated masters from researchers, showcasing the Oceania tour, KISS’s most successful tour to date. This is the definitive edition that will transform your collection shelf into a repository of the “Golden Age of KISS.”
