Description

A high-quality mono audience recording of a live performance in Boston in January 1981, just before Steve Bators and Brian James formed The Lords of the New Church! ~

This excellent mono audience recording was recorded live at the Boston nightclub The Channel on January 2, 1981, under
the name of Steve and Brian, just before the formation of The Lords of the New Church, formed by Steve Bators of the Dead Boys with Brian James (formerly of The Damned) after two original members, Cheetah Chrome and Jeff Magnum, left in 1979. Digitally transferred directly from the master cassette, the
mono sound is stable, with good balance of all parts, including the vocals, resulting in reasonably good sound quality for that time. He performed Dead Boys numbers Sonic Reducer and “Caught With The Meat In Your Mouth” back to back
, followed by The Damned’s killer number “Neat Neat Neat,” and six songs from Steve’s first solo album, “DISCONNECTED,” which was released just a few days ago, including “Evil Boy” and “A Million Miles Away.” The set list also included
a cover of the classic “It’s Cold Outside” by The Choir, the band that preceded The Raspberries and was included on the classic compilation album “PEBBLES,” The Damned’s “Sick Of Being Sick” and “New Rose,” The Dead Boys’ “Ain’t Nothin’ To Do” and “3rd Generation Nation,”
and for the encore, he performed Bo Diddley’s “Pills,” also known for his cover of the New York Dolls!
