TRULY PERFECT SOUND & AMAZING SHOT (with fully synched CD audio sound) & WEBCAST

This ultra-high-quality audience recording of the “OUTSIDE LANDS FESTIVAL” on August 9, 2013, was recorded. While Boston’s sound quality was truly outstanding, if it was the sound source representative of Paul’s live stage in July 2013, San Francisco’s August 2013 performance was undoubtedly the most representative. Since the release of this recording, we felt that its intense sound image and power should have been released on a press CD, so we decided to upgrade this time even before receiving feedback from everyone due to the high quality of the recording. I think the sound quality is truly amazing.

Moreover, there was a rare setlist change in July and August, and the Beatles’ oldie “All My Loving,” which had been played early in the show for many years, was finally dropped. Instead, “Magical Mystery Tour” appeared. While this song has been played as the opening number on past tours and isn’t particularly unusual, its placement in this position ensures that the high-energy tension from the opening “Eight Days a Week” continues unabated. It’s also an effective choice, even among major Beatles songs that consistently incite audience enthusiasm.

This release will not only bring you a CD of the superb sound source, but will also feature footage from the day on a press DVD, making it a definitive release. First, audience shots allow you to enjoy the entire show. Shot from the front with a single camera, close-ups aren’t particularly effective. However, the atmosphere of the venue and the on-stage performance of Paul and the band are well conveyed. Perhaps because this day wasn’t Paul’s solo stage, but a summer festival, it’s easy to see how the audience’s reaction suddenly slows down when relatively minor songs like “Junior’s Farm” begin (laughs). Furthermore, the highlight of the day, “San Francisco Bay Blues,” didn’t seem to be as exciting as Paul had hoped, even though he’d performed it specially from the moment the sound source first appeared. But now that the footage is available, it’s not exactly exciting (laughs). In fact, a woman even appears, dancing toward the cameraman. During “Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!”, a woman appears, perhaps tired of filming the stage, and sits down nearby, feeling unwell. This is also a typical festival scene, different from a regular concert.

When the footage was released on DVD, the audio was replaced with the previously recorded superb audience recording, making the audience shots from monotonous angles even more enjoyable! Of course, the original footage’s lack of audio and video sync issues, which were a result of the shooting position, is completely eliminated in this release. Furthermore, the recording was meticulously done, so you can enjoy the show without any stress. For example, “Helter Skelter” had a slightly different audio and video quality than the original master, so the recording was done to make that part consistent. The entire show was also recorded, enhancing its value as a documentary, including scenes like the quartet’s music stands and chairs being set up on stage before the start of “Yeasterday,” a performance with the local San Francisco band Kronos Quartet that was an unexpected highlight of the day.

Like the Bonnaroo Festival in June, a portion of the live performance was streamed, but unlike then, only eight songs were broadcast in staggered segments this time. While it’s a shame that we missed the highlights and performances mentioned above, the pro-shot footage is still valuable. During “Junior’s Farm,” Brian Ray plays as if he’s been possessed by his Wings guitarist, Jimmy McCulloch. While brief, the video is packed with highlights, including Rusty Anderson’s deliberate flip onstage during “Live And Let Die” and Paul pretending to be frightened by the explosion at the end. Naturally, this footage was recorded on a stereo soundboard, and the audio has been added to the CD for complete authenticity. This is the ultimate release of the latest live performance, combining not only the high-quality audio source on a press CD but also related footage!

★This is a summary of the review from Beatleg magazine, Vol. 160 (November 2013 issue). For your reference.

The recording from the August outdoor festival in San Francisco, which was introduced as the latest recording in the article about the “OUT THERE” tour in the previous issue, has also been released under a press disc title. Moreover, unlike the July Boston set, this is a luxurious five-disc set that even includes a DVD of audience shot footage from the day. As mentioned in the previous issue, the sound source is a superb audience recording with excellent sound quality that captures the performance very closely, and since rare numbers were also played on this day, the appearance of such an item is natural. However, since this recording has also been dubbed as audio for the audience shots, the difference compared to the original footage is clear. Shot with a single camera, the angle is mediocre, but the audio has been changed, making it much easier to see. Even with such footage, it seems that the surprise of the day, “San Francisco Bay Blues,” was not well received (perhaps because it was an outdoor festival), and furthermore, the Kronos Quartet, a San Francisco band famous for covering Jimi Hendrix and others, appeared for the encore, realizing a collaboration that really showed off their talents on “Yesterday.” This is something that can only be seen in the video. And the streaming pro-shot footage that was played on the day for only a few songs is also included along with the audio.
