★UPGRADE!!!
Madison Square Garden on May 24th was one of the highlights of Wings’ glorious Over America tour. After all, it was a venue mentioned in the lyrics of “Rock Show,” so it was bound to be a blast.
Unfortunately, no filming took place for the live performance film “ROCK SHOW,” and the only glimpse we have of the event is through 8mm footage shot from the audience.
Still, as you’d expect from MSG, there are multiple 8mm videos of this day. A enthusiast has carefully compiled the existing footage and released it on YouTube.
The footage compiled in the first half is very easy to watch as it was shot from the audience seats in 1976, and it’s a wonderful piece that conveys the enthusiasm of the early part of the live performance.
However, the angle of the newly discovered 8mm footage that appears halfway through “Let ‘Em In” is stunning, and it has been recorded again from the master reel, so the image quality is excellent. At first glance, it is so wonderful that it almost makes you think, “Is this a pro shot?”
What’s more, when the same scene is captured, multiple images are displayed in multiple angles, which is an elaborate finish. Of course, since it’s 8mm footage, it’s inevitable that the performance scenes will be fragmented throughout, but it’s still worth watching.
That’s because the person who so carefully compiled the existing 1976 MSG 8mm footage is the YouTube account of a enthusiast who released the historic discovery and masterpiece “FIRST FLIGHT: NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY 1972.”
It was a laborious effort to put together multiple videos that were literally in pieces, but the audience recordings from the same day, which have always been known for their high sound quality, were meticulously dubbed no matter how fragmented they were, making it easy to watch.
If they’ve put it together so carefully, I think it can be enjoyed as a normal video recording of MSG’s 1976 live performance.
And as a bonus, a pro shot of the first day’s performance at the LA Forum, the final performance of the Over America Tour, was recorded by a news footage crew.
It starts with the fans before the doors open, then shows celebrities in attendance. The early part of the concert, from there to “Let Me Roll It,” is recorded in the highest quality possible, even though it’s fragmented. At first glance, it could be mistaken for an outtake from “ROCK SHOW.”
From the peak of the Over America tour, we have compiled rare footage that captures a different kind of enthusiasm from “ROCK SHOW”. Above all, it is a rare and truly maniacal video that captures a historic day on the tour!
